I'm off sugar.

I drink too much soda and eat too many sweets.

I've been wanting to get healthy for a while, and it's come to fruition today. I don't have time to work out properly, so I figure that this will be the next best thing. I'm really addicted to sugar.

Anyone want to join me?

Watch out for the "other sweetener" - high fructose corn syrup.

Yeah. That one is going to be harder to avoid. I'm not going to be super picky about it, I'm just giving up cake, candy, soda, and whatnot (except for special occassions, of course) and eating somewhat healthier when possible.

I quit drinking regular sodas on Dec. 10, 2002. So far so good.

But I won't (can't?) quit sugar altogether, I must have my iced tea sweetened, and sometimes dessert is nice to have. 🙂

I'd like to know what it's like to not have a gut. I'm not obese or anything, I just have a decent root-beer belly. The thing is, I'm allergic to aspartame and sucralose, so diet versions of everything are out.

Yeah, good luck finding things without this guy. or modified food starch.

More power to ya though.

I did some cutting back on the sugars too. Grapefruit juice (plain, some brands ruby red) has no added sugar (high fructose syrup) and fruit essentials jam has no added sugar. I switched those into my diet for juice and jelly in da mornin.

This is probably a good thing. Soda is bad for you, period. Low carb, diet, or otherwise. You know that acid they put in coke? It's like Drain-o for your intestines.

Yeah, we're on acids and bases in Chem II. Diet coke has a pH of 3.1. 😉

I quite eating McDonald's and Burger King food on December 10, 2002. This was apparently quite the day for swearing off things.

Getting off of sugar is good, but it's not the next best thing to getting exercise. There is strong evidence that the amount of exercise you get correlates with how healthy you are and how long you live, no matter what you eat.

I like to just stay away from things with a lot of preservatives and artificial flavorings. It's difficult to go wrong eating natural and fresh.

I was off sugar for a few months, but am totally back 🙁

Find a good place like a farmers market to get cheap fruit and make lots of smoothies 🙂

Well, I walk 30 minutes per day on my break, plus however much walking around campus I do. It's not strenuous, but I don't have the time or the energy to do that. I get about 4 hours of sleep on weeknights, so I have to be mindful of what I do, or I'll be off my game. 🙂

My problem is that I need the energy that excess sugar gives me. It's hard to eat 2000 calories of not-sugar.

See you later, honey. :lips:

Seriously, I couldn't stop my sugar intake entirely. I'm not a big 'sweets' fan, but once in awhile I'll have something sweet for dessert.

edit: wow. I messed that up.
