I'm Off Coffee!

This is the fourth day I've gone without coffee, or any other caffeine, and I've finally cleared the hump! No headache this morning and no pain killers. Now, the question is, should I just stay off it? God, I LOVE coffee!

I quit eating chocolate and coffee on Monday as an experiment to see if either one was causing an allergic reaction. So far, I still have the symptoms, so it's a fair guess that neither was the cause. That's good, cause I'd hate like hell to give up chocolate, which I love even more than coffee! Now that I've beaten the caffeine withdrawals, I wonder if I should just give it up. It ALWAYS gives me heartburn, so that would be one good reason to quit. The expense of coffee and time wasted making it might be another. Small consolation for giving up something I like SO much.

It might make one positive New Year's resolution, if I can stay off it. Any ideas for sustitutes or other reasons I should stay on the wagon?

Coffee in moderation is actually supposed to be good for you. Like 1 cup a day.

But if you don't want coffee try hot tea.

Go to your local Starbucks and get the caffeine IV quickly before it's too late!!!

1 latte a day is all I need to remain sane.

I don't drink coffee, period. Before you know it, you're on 2 cups a day and that number steadily increases.
If I'm tired, I try and find time to sleep at work. :D

I always thought if you're addicted to caffeine then you're addicted to all forms of caffeine but I was wrong.

A friend of mine can down 5-6 cans of soda in an 8 hour work day :Q but hates coffee.

Soda, coffee, chocolate it's all good :p

I have tried coffee several times but I just don't like the taste.

I have an addiction to Coke (as in cola) :)

Congrats I graduated to Tea two or three years ago
To get off the bean, each cup has about 1/3 the caffeine of coffee
Made it easier to just drink it in the morning too nothing after lunch.
Never been a fan of chocholate though

It's not a matter of "needing" it, I just like it! Went to breakfast yesterday at Open Pantry. It was miserable not having coffee there. After dinner I usually have coffee and desert. When I get up in the morning, I make a pot, drink it, and make another. I carry my mug in the car when I take my son's to school or the bus stop. It's a really ingrained habit.

Just had three small pieces of chocolate candy... MMMmmmmm! I'll be darned if it didn't make me slightly dizzy, and I started coughing, which is what the experiment was all about in the first place. Merely a coincidence, I hope.

I hate the taste of coffee, I hate the taste of tea. Hmm, maybe that's why I'm so tired all the time compared to other people...you have the secret weapons!!

I go through 3-5 cups of french vanilla coffee a day. It's free and it's sweet. There's no way I can quit this stuff.

I am completely non-functional until I have my morning cup of coffee.

I had kicked the habit for well over a year, but it slowly brings you back to it. :(

No, I don't really. I'd settle for decaf, but i hate the looks you get from waitresses when you're the only one at the table who orders it. Not to mention, it's a lot more expensive than regular. I'd also have to make separate pots of coffee for my wife and I. What a hassle!

Ach, I've got a tinge of a headache now, but I'm not taking any aspirin for it. We've got caffeine free aspirin, BTW. I also got a sample of Aciphex from my doctor. OMG, this stuff is magic. One teeny pill, once per day and I have a cast iron stomach! I can eat ANYTHING and no heartburn at all! It didn't do a thing for this chronic cough, but I am hooked on it. Not sure what it costs, and it may be harmful long term, but it's awesome!

I kick the habit every few months for a few weeks, then go back. I enjoy coffee too much to give it up permanently; that being said, it's nice to leave it for a few weeks, then come back and realize what the buzz is all about (both figuratively and literally). :)

I have tried coffee several times, but have no need for it.

I do prefer a good herbal tea every now and then.

Well,I haven't come to a decision yet. I don't know about herbal tea. That's what my mom drinks, and it's OK, but just not worth the trouble. We've been using a Bunn coffeemaker forever, so I can expect ten cups in about 3 minutes. When I make tea, it seems like a long drawn out procedure in comparison. I can drink coffee cold, after it's been sitting for hours, but I couldn't do that with tea. If you're on the road and want a quick cup... boom, you've got it at McDonalds, 7-Eleven or the nearest service station. If I were only drinking tea, I'd be screwed.

Either I drop this altogether or... ?

hey, I have that same coffeemaker! Best appliance I have ever purchased. Brought it home when i moved back from school and now my parents use it too. I don't complain because there's always coffee ready. :D

Ornery,

You have a few choices:

1) Get your wife to convert over to Decaf also. Then, you'd only have to make one pot.

2) Purchase some Chock Full Of Nuts "New York Decaf." The flavor is very good. I drink a few cups of this stuff daily and it tastes great!

I would love to be able to drink caffeine - nothing like that caffeine "high." However, due to some health issues, I was forced to give it up. I still sneak in a "true" Coke every now and then along with some chocolate, but in regards to coffee, I'm strictly "decaf."

If you want to drink something that has at least a little bit of caffeine in it, but is also good for you in so many other ways.. drink green tea. :)

i made a resolution to drink no soda for a year, i think you should try to stay off the coffee as long as you can and see what happens.

Good deal. I drink very little to no caffiene (maybe a soda a week) and feel better for it.
