this is my first ever post here at anandtech the reason being that my computer up until about 2 weeks ago had been doing fine. Until it began to start having random restarts and lock-ups playing games...i thought about it and came to the conclusion that it must have been my 430Watt powersupply being under the recommeded 480watts to power my BFG 6800Ultra. so i saved up enough money and bought the "520Watt Vantec stealth" but as soon as i put it in I ran into a second Problem that my windows OS wouldn't boot up so i went to my bios and clocked my overclocked AMD Barton 2600 which at that time was running at AMD 3000 speeds back down to stock speeds. And sure enough it booted up.I have come to foind that i can no longer OC my processor second question.my computer specs are below. One more thing to add on my motherboard my chipset heatsink fan is not working could that be the problem?

Lian Li pc-65b
1GB corsair XMS memeory
200gb 7200rmp hatachi harddrive
BFG 6800 Ultra (stock speeds)
Abit KV7 Motherboard (with chipset heatsink fan not working)
520W Vantec Stealth powersupply
AMD Barton 2600 (with Zalman heatsink)
((If any other specs are needed feel free i to tell me.))

Why cant i over clock my processor anymore?

why is my computer still having lock ups play games even after i replaced the power supply?

this was put together in a hurry so if anyother information is needed feel free to contact me.Your help is much appricaited thanks!!!!

I would just bet that you will need to get that fan running like real fast, it may already be to late by the sounds of it. Turn the computer off and leave it off until you replace the fan. Also clean any dust out of all your fans if you havent done so already. Probably wasted your money on the PSU you just have to get that fan working then cross your fingers the chips didnt get damaged to badly. As far as overclocking that may be done as well, but you wont have that answer until you replace the fan.

Good Luck!!!

WOW, thanks for such a fast reply! i will be turning off my computer now and making a trip over to Fry's thanks.

While it was not explained, overclocking a cpu not only heats up the cpu but the northbridge chipset which has to handle the extra load and thus creates more heat. What this means is that when you overclock, not only do you have to cool your cpu but you have to make sure your mobo chipset is adequately cooled as well.

You guys are awesome you hit it right on the money why my computer is restarting I havent had a reboot yet... But still cant overclock.which is not a problem but would like to if i could. akugami it seems that with the fan running on the chipset now that it would be at a adequate temp. i it wont even let me clock it over 1 FBS.
