I'm no longer neutral. Intel Blows, AMD Rocks!!!!

I'm going to AMD as soon as I can get a dual mb out of them. Can't stand inhell and their let's try to screw every little penny out of you.

Windogg....

I have to agree with you....I have a PII 300@450 that's getting a little long in the tooth....With a 1ghz T-Bird under $300 and quality pc133 as low as it is I'm about ready to pull the trigger.......I was going to wait for the DDR boards but this is too good to pass up.

FORM, BUD, apparently you guys cant see the humor in my post. What it represents is the fact that game developers should start realizing the AMD as a real chip and program their games accordingly. I too am an AMD fan, even though I dont actually have one but use one at work.

Agreed, the MSI K7T Pro is a great choice for a motherboard, but how about the K7T Pro2? It's stabler. Check out the review on Anandtech.

I would seriously think again about getting the G400 DH over the MX if he's a graphics designer. Dual monitors will be very useful to him.

Yea I decided to get the G400. I built one system in the office w/ the G400MAX DH and the graphics guy who uses it loves it. I'm just curious how much radiation he takes in w/ 2 x 21" Monitors?

The final straw for me are intel's completely retarded commercials! I mean have you seen the new ones with the 3 green guys I mean have you seen this (seinfeld)!

and I am sure that bragging about your girlfriend is a much better "waste of bandwidth" you are a lazy golden member that wants us to do all the work for your trying to pick your computer. you are trying to dicuss topics that have been brought up a million times. if this was from a junior I am sure that I could understand, laziness is retarded.

tikerz if you don't like it you can just go away and stop nitpicking so much. hardware is always changing and it never hurts to get a second opinion on a major investment like this. i dont know about you, but i dont have the money to waste on making a bad decision. don't get so defensive just because you dont have a girlfriend with huge knockers. 🙂

MSI K7T Pro2 will be available early November, with super southbridge 686B(ATA100). You saw those 4700uf big ass capacitors, I want to see Abit put some of those on their boards. If you need one desperate, get K7T Pro, if you need it now w/ OC, the Asus A7V will do the job.

If good 2D is needed, why not consider the Radeon SDR or Voodoo4? Much better than GF2 MX's 2D, probably even better than G400.

Tikerz: If you take my sig seriously you OBVIOUSLY do not know the forums well enough. Try doing a forum search. I have build dozens of systems and I am merely showing an example of what can be had for around $1,250.

LXi: I haven't done too much on the Radeon, how are the drivers?

Windogg

The Radeon 2D is acknowledged by many as the "best of the rest". Drivers are great, much better than before.

I just might have to get a Radeon for the system then. The guy thats getting this will probably crap his pants when he sees the speed. 🙂

Windogg

Absolutely, not to mention that its faster than GF2 MX in 32bit color. Can be found for around $130, excellent buy.

It was bound to happen. More intelions dropping like flies comming to the better side! LOL.. Good luck on your build.. BTW, dont count out the Asus A7V.. Im awaiting on a Kt7PRO2 myself for another system. Umm, the Abit is a PITA with its crappy HighPoint drivers, so i think you would be much more satisfied with the ASUS. I have built over 400 Athlon systems since it debut. Get a Antec P303X for you PS and again, the Matrox 400 is an awesome card for what your needs are.

I'm a Newbie here, so please bear w/ me:

Doesn't the MX support twin view as well? IS that not the same as the dual head G400?

Am interested in building my first system. Any suggestions for a guide / faq? Want to use it for an entertainment system / second computer for games, DVD's on my TV via S-VHS input, and internet access. It will share internet via my main cpu on a DSL. My wife is using the main computer for work now, so we are in need of a second 'puter.

Looking for a Duron 700-750, 128 ram, IBM deskstar 30 gb, DVD 12x. Looking to spend ~1000. From some of the posts here seems that I can do this for a lot less.

Am undecided on:

soundcard: Need one with S/PDIF output to my dolby digital receiver. Any recs? Do all of the current soundblasters support S/PDIF or just the one's labelled "5.1"
Videocard: geforce 2 MX vs. Radeon sdr 32. Any thoughts out there? I saw Anand's review, but am undecided b/c of the geforce's better games 3d vs. the radeon's better DVD support. Is it noticeable? Also, in the future, would like to output this to an LCD projector with VGA input. Some LCD's have RGB inputs. What's that? I'm familiar with composite, component and SVHS, but never heard of RGB input.

Thanks

freeflap: GeForce2 MX does support TwinView, but they're priced in the upper $100s. While the ones w/o twinview can be had for around $100.

If you're trying to decide between GF2 MX and the Radeon, ask yourself two questions:

1. Do you need high quality 2D?
2. Do you play games at 32bit?

If yes to number 2 then the Radeon is yours, if yes to number one then you have to consider other factors.

Not too many at 32 bit. I find that it slows down too much, especially for online games. Is there much difference in 2d performance between these cards? It's hard to believe that 2d isn't excellent on all the current videocards. They seem to have improved dramatically over the last 2 years.

More importantly for me is the quality of the DVD playback as it will substitute for a standard DVD player in my entertainment system. My current Geforce sdr256 works very well already with soft DVD playback. I assume that either of these cards will be equal or better.

Thanks

Windogg I think you're being a bit hard on tikerz. Hardware specs in the sig serve a useful purpose when writing of technical issues a person is having because so many problems are due to interaction of components in computers. By putting it in is sig it means people don't have to ask questions about his config. I mean look at my sig, I don't pretend it is a phallic symbol for me to run @600MHZ.

Windogg,

What type of hs/f are you going to be using with this KT7 board? (it is the KT7-Raid w/ UDMA 100 right?)

If you are going to be getting a Thermaltake Orb, you need to get the Chrome Orb (Model No. DU0462). When you put the Orb on, you need to be careful and patient. If you go too quickly and carelessly, you may dammage some of the capacitors right by the CPU socket.

I like intel, it's just that I've found AMD is much better.🙂

I really don't like the msi board, it seems to have more problems. I like asus and even though I would like to have that msi k7 master, I prolly won't change.

What a damn nice system. I was thinking about getting Intel or AMD. Now, I am pretty much sure I will get AMD since the price is cheaper.
