I have a Nvidia 7800GT and a new AL2051W LCD. Though I get no signal when I connect the DVI cables from my video card to the monitor.

So my only guess that one end needs to have a 15 pin D-Sub convertor. It would have to be the monitor as my 7800GT has two DVI connectors.

I only have a D-Sub to DVI adapter from my old Samsung CRT.

Im kind of confused, yet pissed, because I can't find any converters right now.

Can someone explain what exactly I need to do with the DVi cable, eVGA 7800GT, and Acer LCD?

The only converters I have seem to only fit for a CRT. As the LCD has the female connection and so do the converters.

Whoops. Didnt notice the D-Sub cable in the box. Hah.

I feel like a complete noob.

But I guess my 7800GT from Ecga does not support Dvi...as now im running my new monitor off the D-Sub. Would DVI be better?

Wow, and I must say, I've been missing out on a lot!

The color is so vibrant and the screen is well...f'ing huge.

Can't wait to pop in a game...at 1680 x 1050.

Try both DVI ports, and possibly try a different cable.

There is a noticeable difference in picture and color quality between the D-Sub and DVI. Obviously the DVI is much sharper and the colors are more vivid.

It might also be the monitor, but try the cable first. You really don't want VGA if you can have DVI.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Just remembered - connect the DVI cable first, and then turn on the monitor. Also, with the DVI cable connected, enter your monitor's menu, and check if there is an option to enable DVI.
Do not connect both DVI and VGA cables simultaneously - I know you know that, just thought I'd say that...

I think the capacitor I knocked off my video card 4 months ago might have something to do with the signal strength coming out of the video card...

I was going to upgrade the video card anyway. Though 350 dollars for a video card thats meant to play games coming out in 3-6 months is a waste.
