I got an SMC7004BR router today. Ive followed all the directions and I cant seem to get it to work. The lite blinks on the router like it is getting a connection from the cable modem, but it doesnt reach the computer. The only thing I couldnt do was put in a "host name". Could that be my problem? Im using the computer in my sig......Thanks, Chris🙂

First things first - make sure you are all on the same subnet as the router. Everyone and everything - if it is a small network consider using static IP addresses instead of DHCP ? it gives more control. Next make sure the router is accessible to you via a ?ping XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX? << router address. Next set the router as your default gateway. Next ping a random site such as ?ping whatismyip.com.? There may be reboots in there if you are running a 9x box. Feel free to ask anything in clarification.

The OS is WinME. I do not have a clue what you are talking about, theXing🙂 Im just trying to get it to work on my main system, cause my other PC isnt finished yet

If your router IP is 10.236.282.1 Your computer should be 10.236.282.2 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Set your gateway for 10.236.282.1 (router) and it should all be find and dandy! You will need a DNS server though.

Looking at my IP config, default gateway ends in .149.254, my IP ends in 149.25. Is this wrong? Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

Read the content of the following links for general info:

Then make sure that the MAC number of the NIC given to you (or installed) by the Cable ISP is cloned to the Barricade (read the manual for instructions).
