I'm nervous as hell about my AP Calc exam

The exam's in two days and although I've done countless sample tests I don't feel completely prepared. My goal is a 4 to get my money I paid the school for the test back and to get the credits for college. I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to achieve that.

AB or BC? If it's AB and youve done a lot of sample tests you should be fine. Thats what my AP Calc teacher had us do and she basically had alll her students get 4s and 5s.

Don't be. If you're doing well on the practice exams, you'll do fine on the actual exam.

Our class was all worried about the exam, but once we actually started reviewing and doing old tests, we realized how ready we really were for it.

I had a good teacher for Calc, so maybe it was that, but the calc test was cake. I should have brought a gameboy to take up all the extra time I had ;)

I never did any work in Calc AB, and barely studied for the AP test and I still got a 5. It was easy

Don't worry about it. I heard that if you're the first one to finish and get it all right, you'll automatically a 5. :p

fixed for you buddy, you'll get a 5. Either one, AB or BC are easy as hell. Doing a lot of sample tests helped me a lot. With two days left you should Just relax , by now you probably know all the integration and derivatives formulas by heart ( I didn't and I still got a 5 on AB).

Good luck

I took Cal BC and got a 5, and I was one of only like 5 in the region to get 0 wrong. I didn't think it was hard, but I was pretty damn thorough.

Anyways, you should also check your college credit. It was useless for me to get a 5, as I would have received the same college credit had I gotten a 4, so don't stress about it too much.

It is AB for those who asked.

I don't know MOST of my trig integration and differentiation formuals. I keep studying the list but I just don't use them enough to remember them all.

I've been doing OKAY on the sample tests, but not great, and that's why I'm worrying. Last one I took I got 30 right out of 45, 12 wrong, minus 1/4 each equals minus 3, so I got a 27 out of 45. Multiply that by 1.2 and my score out of 54 is 32. I think that's BARELY a 4 for that test, but that doesn't include the free response.

I'm really bad with problems that involve a special function such as h(x), particle problems, and a couple other types I can't think of right now.

Don't worry. Almost all schools will give same credit for 4 or 5. Some school will even give credit for 3. I only got 3 on mine but got one quarter's credit at Northwestern. That was over a decade ago so things might have changed since then.

I believe the only trig functions you need to know for that are sin, cos, tan, arctan, arcsin.

The more you pressure yourself, the worse you'll do. Try to relax. The night before the test, maybe do one more round of practice & then go do something fun, put yourself in a good mood for the exam.

As long as you've been doing OK on the practice tests, you'll be good in the test room.

I honestly wouldn't worry that much...if anything these things are getting easier. If you don't believe me, check out some of the AP calc tests from the 80s--those were a bit more challenging!

Okay, trig functions are alright, I think. Have been looking over the list. Specifically the ones BigJ listed.

I've actually made 100% for two grading periods this year, and above 95% for the other two. That doesn't mean I'm the best of the best in my class, though. It's not a matter of knowing all the concepts and methods, it's a matter of figuring out what to apply in each situation.

eLiu, I'm trying to relax! But actually my teacher told us they get harder each year, because students get better at it each year.

Pish posh...I tracked the types of problems that appear & my take on their difficulty during AB/BC class (I had them rolled in one class), taking samples as far back as 1984. Since then they've all but dropped questions on optimization/related rates & trig-substitutions, which are generally considered to be the toughest intro-calc questions. They've also dropped a lot of tricky questions that combine derivatives & the FTC...really made me think, along with some cute little problems with derivatives & integrals in limit form...

If you'd made this thread 2 years ago, I could've given you the question breakdown for the exam...my friends say I predicted the 2003 BC exam pretty accurately :) I took it in 2002 (HS soph).

But seriously, don't worry! If you don't nail it, that just means you'll have an easy class in your college freshman year--not an altogether bad thing. You sound like you've already put in a lot of effort...the rest will be a bit of luck, to tell ya the truth...which is really how tests tend to work out--some skill & some luck.

It's interesting how the tests go each year. What they normally do is base the difficulty on the recent few years of tests.

For the 2004 AB test, they made it easier than in 2000-2003 because there were a lot less 4s and 5s on those exams. So 2004 was a relatively easy exam. Now they may make it a little bit harder than the 2004 exam, but I don't think its going to be that much more difficult.

For what its worth, I thought I was going to do horrible on the AB test and wound up getting a 5.

Ill also be taking the BC exam in 2 days but Im not really nervous about it. I had a bad teacher so I don't think Ill do great on it. Im just considering the class as an early exposure to freshman calculus.

Even if you get a 1 on it, so what? You take one more class in college. Big deal, You're going to end up taking at least one class that you didn't need to take, anyway.

eh wasn't bad.

my friends had a horrible teacher. They got C-s and a D- respectively. But they both got 5s on the test...then again according to her she was the most insane and mentally unstable 4 foot Japanese lady you ever saw
