hey roger, you might want to waste your tax money on stupid sh!t like this but I don't

the punishment should fit the crime, and it does not do that in this case

Are you people blind

READ MY PREVIOUS POST
Roger,

Calm down. ;)

I'm not disagreeing with you anymore; are you reading my posts? I'm merely interested in what you envision as a fair punishment. That extends beyond the arrest to what he should be charged with, and what, in an ideal situation, he would have to serve as punishment.

Rob

I have no thoughts on the actual punishment, I leave that to the courts.

If you break the law, you pay the consequences by either paying a fine (As in a speeding ticket) or by being arrested

I read your post Roger, and I don't think he should be arrested. Fined? Sure. Cable disconnected? Fine. Pays the cable company for the bandwidth he used? No problem. But our jails are full of this kind of crap while murderers get released because there isn't room. What exactly do you think happens when people get arrested? They go to jail, and it costs you about $30k per head per year.

Read my previous post for christs sake.
I said ;

He should have been arrested, fingerprinted and let out on bond.

Nowhere did I say he should be rotting in jail.

His punishment should be left up to the courts.

C'mon, that's a half-assed answer. I asked for your idealism; you gave me a politician's response. If you don't actually have any thoughts on the punishment, I'm sorry - I consider it part of our civic duty to question trials, charges, and punishments that are unfit. In order to do that, we must first decide what is fit.

Rob

Well Rob, I'll let you make it your job to do so, I have no interest what so ever to do so.

If you want to make a difference, go become a judge and throw these cases out or become a politician and change the law yourself.

I am a TrollHunter Pete, why do you find that ironic ?
Because I hate thieves and I chase them down for the fine people here ?

How about this, I'll stop trollhunting and let the freaking thieves run wild here and then maybe they can rip you off.
That would be fair wouldn't it ?

I've considered it. I'm beginning to think that the real solution is through the initiative process; despite the fact that I disagreed with most of his standpoints, Tim Eyman achieved a lot in terms of politics in this state. That's part of the reason I argue so much here; I'm interested in learning more about the political, judicial, and moral opinions of others, and additionally am interested in how to argue one viewpoint or another.

Were the situation ideal, he would be forced to pay retributions (fair retributions) to the cable company. That's all the punishment that I believe he deserves. And you?

Make him handle tech support calls for awhile. He'll be begging for jail inside a week.

You'd like to think that, wouldn't you? Theft - larceny, depending on how long you steal for - and it's a crime against the FCC, the F stands for Federal. You're going to get shafted - and how!

You should be put down you're so cruel...

I find it ironic because you are acting somewhat trollish :)

You also don't need to post your point in bold and caps so many times, those who are capable of understanding have already done so. On the other hand, perhaps you should be more clear. Things such as "All I am saying is THAT HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ARRESTED" on a tech forum in a topic such as this is going to make tech people resent you.

Let them resent me, I don't give a flying hoot if they do, but certain people obviously cannot read because I had to repeat my self over and over to get my point across.

There is no reason why people need to be arrested for this kind of thing.

People who uncap their modems usually just get disconnected. If he was disconneted and fined for the bandwidth used, plus some compensation, then it would have been fair.

People do not have to be arrested for such petty crimes.

Its funny you should use a shoplifter as an example. I worked at a grocery store and saw several people get caught shoplifting. The only time they arrested someone is when they confirmed that he had shoplifted several times before.

Roger,

You had to repeat yourself in order to get your point across because from the beginning, your "point" wasn't lucid. Your original post said one thing but apparently meant another. Another problem with your original posts is that you edit them, adding things after people respond.

If you want people to understand, take enough time that your first post makes sense in and of itself; then you won't have to rescind, or modify, it later.

Rob

OK Rob, I give up.

I quit, you win, happy now ?

(By the way, I kept editing my threads because you guys were posting faster than I could answer)

Part of this, Roger, is that I can't have everyone else thinking that all of us Elites and oldtimers get along. ;)

If someone stole something from you, wouldn't you want the thief to go to jail ?

Ok, lets say I own a bakery and a poor man steals a loaf of bread to feed his family, should we send him to jail as well. Some how I don't see that happening.

WTF is going on down there? The cable company should have disconnected his ass, the cops don't need to be involved.
