$300 range....Bulova makes decent watches. Of course, you Seiko and Citizen are reputable brands as well.

I had a $150 citizen watch for years. It finally failed. It made it about 10 years. It was abused though. I was even robbed for it and it was throw by the thief onto concrete as the cops chased him...

It failed a few months ago. I bought 2 $60 armitron watches to replace it.

They're ok. I had to return one of them after the first week because it was losing time. But they look nice.

My Citizen is also approaching the 9-10 year mark. I paid $250 for it back then. Here is the latest verison of it.

As others have said, $300 is unfortunately not a very functional price point for watches. You won't get much with distinction, and you won't get much of anything at all if you're looking for an analog watch.

That said, here are some options.

1) Hamilton. You might be able to get into one for a little more. Hamilton is a classic name, though it's owned by Swatch. The movements are ETA, and they're known for a reasonable degree of quality for the price.

2) Victorinox. Decent movements, nice style, a lot of options. I bought my brother-in-law a nice chronograph, though it was ~$500.

3) Seiko. A lot of options as others have said.

4) Citizen. Same.

5) Vintage. You can find a lot of vintage watches, though $300 is probably pushing it. I have a few vintage watches that I love to wear. Still, you might consider it. You could probably pick up an Omega in good condition for $500, though it will look like it's about 30 years old :)

That's all that comes to mind. Personally, I'd buy a cheaper watch and then save the money, either to buy a watch of more interest or to simply save it for something else.

I've been wearing a Seiko chronograph for about four years now, and it's done really well. I think that the wife walked into the Seiko store overseas and special ordered it from Japan, so I'm guessing that she paid about $500 for it. I'd totally buy another Seiko, but I don't see this one wearing out anytime soon.

I got obsessed with the Suunto Observer Titanium a few months ago, but the reviews on the durability of the plastic parts of the watch band are so bad. I just can't pay $500 for a watch where half the friggen band if made of plastic... especially when so many people are complaining that the band breaks in a year or two and they need to buy a new one for $100+.

I have a number of vintage watches and one of my favorites was less than that including the custom strap i had made out of a US Army pistol holster. The watch itself was issued to the Rhodesian army in the early 70's like the one described here

What are the advantages of buying a Titanium watch over a regular Stainless Steel watch? Weight is one reason... but what else?

I might go to the $500 if I can find a VERY nice one. I've been looking to the Citizen Eco-Drive watches. They are my top choice right now..

I've worn a Citizen Ecodrive pretty much every day for going on 4 years now with no complaints. Until I have the money to move up to the upper echelons I'll stick with Citizen. At this rate this single watch will take me all the way to that income level.

I bought a vintage Omega a while ago hoping to get it restored and repaired someday. Never got around to it and I ended up selling it to someone on the FS board here.

I have 3 Bulovas that have been great watches. One is a leather band, one is an automatic and one is a multi-toned watch. I liked the automatic because it was heavy, but if you didnt wear it for a day or two, you would have to reset the time. My daily watch and the one I wear most is a Tag.
