what would you guys recommend? I've decided I'm going to try to build my own PC, and I'm going to be doing a lot of video editing and gaming, so I want something solid. I just don't know whether to go with AMD or Intel, and I don't know what the best cores or anything like that are. Suggestions?

OK, but you also mentioned you're looking for a motherboard and a processor, so which one is it? Whole system, or just mobo+cpu?

This should get you started. It is most likely far from what the final configuration will be, but I am just throwing some suggestions out there.

I'm actually looking for a whole system. I don't know how much motherboards and processors cost, so I couldn't tell you the budget for that. But my entire system budget is around $1000.

When I say complete system, I mean just the box and everything inside. No monitor, keyboard or mouse. That's the easy stuff I'll worry about later.

Well then, KoolDrew gave some good recommendations, except I'd spend somemore on the graphics card, perhaps an X800XL or 6800GT. You'd also need to factor in the PSU(<$100), soundcard(unless you wanna go integrated). Also, I'm not that familiar with Epox motherboards, I'd go with a better brand. Check out AT's motherboard reviews for recommended nforce4 based motherboards. A 3000+ Venice would probably do, especially if you overclock.
