I'm looking for a minidv camera...where do I begin?

I want a good, reliable minidv camera for my upcoming tour of Europe this July. I have never gone out and purchased a camera before. I already have a Sony Cybershot digicam so I think the digital still function on the camera won't be necessary. What I DO want in the minidv camera are image stabilizer, night shot capabilities, fade in/out, nice zoom range, and MOST IMPORTANT is great image quality and sound. I want all of these features but all in the budget of $500-$600. So there you go camera guru's, tell me what you think and what you recommend. Also, if you have any suggestions on features that I should have or that I really don't need, then let me know...I'm pretty much open to ANY suggestions right now. Thanks peeps!

The Canon ZR-40 looks good, in your price range.

The difference between the 40 and the 50 is 18X opt. zoom vs 22X, and no MMC card support (just video), but you already have a digicam for that.

Nice camera and nice price! Keep em coming...wanna take a look at as many camcorders as possible.
