...to become part of a new TA DC team. A few people who don't mind losing their identities for the good of TA. A few folks who want to make an impact where others can't or aren't willing to. Interested yet?

"But what project?" you may ask. The answer is simple. All projects.

"Why? And to what purpose?" The aim of such a team would be to increase the presence of TA in the DC community. Primary objectives would be to increase rankings in projects not currently at a level deemed acceptable, and to help new projects get a running start. Secondary objectives would be to run reconnaisance missions and to provide support for projects involved in races with outside parties.

Interested individuals may apply here. Please keep the following requirements in mind:

1) You will be dedicated to your new unit. If you are the type of person who gives up on new projects after a week, you need not apply.

2) Reworked: It would be helpful for a prospective member to have some prior experience with a DC project. There will be various duties to be performed, some not dependent on crunching. Therefore your incoming CPU power is not an issue. However, please realize that if you have only one cruncher, and you wish to dedicate it to TASO, that you will lose your identity and all your WU's will be submitted under the TASO name.

3) You may be called upon to work on any of the DC projects. You must be able to switch projects easily and with due speed. Your knowledge of multiple DC projects will be a boon to the TeAm.

4) You may not be liked. You may not be appreciated. You may even be feared. You will get the job done.

For the lucky, welcome to TA Spec Ops!

Just a point of clarification. I'm not asking for people to only be on this team. You can still do the things you love. But the firepower you reserve for the Spec Ops team will be donated under a blanket account.

Lead the double life you've always dreamed about! And when people look at you funny, just return a shit-eating grin! :D

Click on the link DC World Rankings in my sig. The new team will be working on any and all of the projects listed there, and any new projects that should arise. Exactly which project at any given point in time will be determined by members of the new team, based on need and the desire to get all projects ranked above a certain (yet to be determined and evolutionary) threshold.

The majority of the work will be submitted to a new TASO account in each project (the name still to be determined). Certain missions may make this undesirable, such as covertly rewarding a TeAm member from the general populace for service to TA. (All such missions will be determined by majority vote of TASO members, and participation will be encouraged, but not mandatory.)

So, is there any interest here, TA? Is there?

If you are shy, you can always PM me with with questions/comments/concerns/bribes/pledges.

Practically ROFL @ networkman :D

Sounds like fun, MereMortal! I only have one system so I'm not going to be able to help, not until I build more anyway :D But if I can get something cobbled together, I'll let you know.

Everyone loves me! I am beloved! I am so beloved, I will make you sick to your stomach. Of course, they pay me like a fast food worker, but hey, we can't all be superstars.

For those who remember what a PTE is, this sounds sort of similar. A chance to have fun doing something for others, namely the Team as a whole. I know I could stand to learn more about the projects I haven't tried yet. :)

MereMortal, can you elaborate on why you put the 2GHz stipulation in there? You don't want to come across as if the "little guy" doesn't count just because all he/she had to offer was an old Celeron or K6 or something. The whole point, or at least half the point, is to foster Team spirit, right? And spirit isn't measured in MHz. ;)

I'd be up for it as soon as RC5-64 ends, but not a moment sooner.

All right, all right. I can be reasonable (when poked repeatedly with pointy sticks ;)).

I will reword requirement (2) to be firepower independent. My intention was not to exclude potential members, but to try to get some experienced power, at least initially. The number 2 GHz was chosen arbitrarily as the rough power of a new system.

I was reluctant to include such a stipulation (for the reasons expressed by others above), but I was trying to find some way to address the following concerns:

i) This type of project is probably not for the newbie. Nothing against a new DC'er. But I think it would be appropriate for a member to have at least a moderate level of experience, to help guide the direction of the team and to ease logistics. Also, I didn't want this team to be a revolving door; that would kill effectiveness.

ii) I wasn't expecting much support (hoping, but not expecting). To be effective, I think the TASO should have on the order of 50 GHz of power. Even at 2 GHz/person, that would still be 25 members; so the 2 GHz was as high a threshold as I could stomach stipulating, while still having a hope of reaching that power level (and 25 members it seems was quite optimistic).

iii) I didn't want to put anyone with a single machine in the position of being solely anonymous. However, my concerns should not outweigh a potential member's willingness to participate. Also, there will be other tasks besides crunching to be undertaken, so this issue is moot.

By all means, this is a work in progress and I appreciate the feedback. This thing should be made to be fun, but just as importantly, it should be made to be effective (which in turn will make it fun).

I'm trying, guys!

MM - thanks for the clarification;) - I think i know where this is headed ;):)

While my involvement is "Classified" (i'd have to shoot you if I told you) :p I think this could be a great thing for all the TeAm DC projects.

Come one...come all... but again this is an donation and you may be asked to do any of the DC projects:D

As the 3 musketeers once said...."pass me a beer"....ummm ooops wrong quote, but you all said it to yourselves! :p ha ha ha :p

One thing you might want to add to the requirements is broadband. I'd be folding right now if I had broadband. I'd also be posting more, too. :(

I've got one "universal cruncher" I might be interested in dedicating to this. (edit: 400-600mhz; that's all I've got personally at college.) I used to switch it around different projects regularly, and to some degree I still do. :)

Sign me up MereMortal. I like the idea - as long as theres enough support from others.

I have a paltry 'fleet', but the two machines at home are seperate (ie: not part of a SetiQ or something) so they are easily configured.

You have been allocated my Athlon XP 1700+. Awaiting orders :D

Details:
Xp 1700+ @ stock speed (thats all, for now...)
SETI - experienced (my main project)
ECCp 109 - competent (was a backup project for when I couldnt d/l WUs)
I am able to get accustomed to other projects quite easily - so no worries there.

You can count me in for about 2.5GHZ of Nuclear Powered WU"S.:D

I have meddled a little in SETI and ECCp but anything should be no problem.
