I'm looking at a car w/ 220,000+ miles. Thinking about buying it.

You could get one for that price with less than 100K miles.

You're crazy and uninformed.

Thanks big guy, but those are the older model, and the first is a salvage title ;) And I don't feel I've been owned yet...

Did you see this?

"Bose 200-Watt 7 Speaker including Nd Woofer Audio System w/ AM/FM/Cassette and In-dash CD Player"

I'd expect to pay 6500 just for that Bose system alone. It's a great deal!

Just kiddin, yeah I'd pass as the car will be expensive to fix and will need repairs soon.

AStar617's Unified Theorem on jmebonner's Pending Vehicle Transaction
  • POSTULATE 1: The questionable logic of buying a car on eBay concerns me.
  • POSTULATE 2: The questionable logic of spending $6k+ on most any car with 220k+ miles frightens me.
  • THEOREM: The combined idea of spending $6k+ on most any car with 220k+ miles on eBay nearly makes my head explode.

(I drive a '92 525i w/213k, and '96 Pathfinder with 89k)

This is what I like. :) Well put, I'm not buying the car.

I did, however, buy a wrecked Saturn off ebay, flew from Denver to St. Louis one way and drove it home. Total cost $800, including ticket. That was actually easier than spending $5000+

Fine, but my point as well as many others was that this is not a good deal at all. I personally see no point in buying this car. For $6500, you could easily get a better deal, meaning one with far less miles as well as the luxury appeal this Infiniti has.

How about Acura or Lexus?

No, you're right. This thread really did become the deciding factor. It helped me look at some other angles, which is what's great about AT.

I've looked at some Acuras, Legend namely. I also checked into some cars from Lexus, but being the tightwad, I don't want to spend too much. 20-30k is not out of my reach, it' just that I don't want to reach that much. For crying out loud, I'm driving a Buick I paid $300 for. I didn't need the car, but how do you turn that down, lol?

So, I'm finally ready to take on a small car payment, and I've set my limit. I'm actually leaning toward a '97 Maxima SE. Nice trim level, I can work on it, there's a huge resource at maxima.org for help, and it's a tasteful car.
