the faster the miles were racked up, the less damage any of those miles did. fewer cold starts, less acceleration, less time spent in lower gears, less braking, etc.

i'd rather have that car than one 7 years older with half the miles.

that said, it's more money than i would pay for that particular car. and BTW, people are saying "maxima" because that is all the I30 is.

and no, i wouldn't buy it if i were you. when you consider that Accords from the same year routinely sell for about double that cost, it really ought to tell you something about resale values and what you can expect this car to be worth in a few years. it makes sense to drive a high-mileage car and pay for repairs if the depreciation is minimal, because your total cost of ownership remains extremely low. high depreciation plus high maintenence costs for a car that isn't even interesting or loveable just doesn't make sense. for a ferrari, sure. for a maxima, hell no.

Well, I had the guy get me the carfaz history. It reported an accident with frame damage in '03. Nah, no thanks! I sincerely appreciate everyone's opinions! Back to looking for a late 90's maxima... (and waiting on MotionMan's reply ;) )

Checkout Maxima.org and find yourself a I30 or Maxima around that price with lower miles.

I have an 01 I30 and you may get 28mpg on the highway, but city driving is very low 20's.

I love the car, but that's alot of miles.

The miles being racked up really quick is better then really slow. The problem I would have with buying it is its a boring family car. If there was something special about it I could see taking some risk with it but there isn't. Its not any better IMO then most other boring family cars you could buy with way less miles for the same price.

Au contraire, on a car that new, those miles will be almost all freeway miles, which are the best kind by far.

That is a sharp looking car, but 220k miles? Come on, don't be stupid. I wouldn't even buy it for $2000 with that many miles.

Au Contraire, If you'll read the post you'll see he counteroffered $6150 and later in an email said he coulg go $5750

Big difference there ;) And it's still over 100,000 miles.

Now, if that's not an error, I'm all over it... Thanks Iam, I'm checking it out, but I suspect either error or salvage title on that one :)

Edit: 203,000 miles, but for $1700 less, it' realistic.

Uh, isn't this thread about over, since you decided not to buy the I-30, once you found out it had been wrecked? ;)

Could do what I did... buy a craigslist pick'em-up truck for 500 bucks. Fix mechanical issues, profit.

The general consensus is that these motors will last 350,000 if cared for. It looks like the car's been cared for. But man, that's a lot. You've also got to figure in cv joits, boots, tie rods, yadda yadda.

But all that aside, I'm still considering it... Whatcha think?

tie rod ends i consider part of regular (extended) maintenance...they tend to go
CV joints should be OK if the boot is

hell, i'd buy it just to see how far i can get.

I'd need to get him to the $5000-5500 range to even consider it. I've counteroffered $3950 and he came back with $6150.

Blue book retail is $9000 even with the mileage. I'm thinking I'll try to get him to knock the price down and throw in a 6-12 month warranty, but that all depends on the warranty terms. I can't be going to houston to get things fixed as I'm in Kansas

I paid 10k for my 2000 I30t in Lawrence, Kansas and it had 101k on it. Same engine as the maxima, its good for 300k miles or so.

I bought the car last spring. No traction control but it has the lsd, climate control, leather, etc.

No, I30s are definitely not cheap. They are luxury cars.
