I'm leaving for Boot Camp in two days!

My Civilian life is almost over. I'm joining the Navy.

Anyone join in the past decade or so? Any pro-tips from the ATOT elders?

If you get placed on a carrier, ask for above-the-deck room, preferably with an ocean view. Below the deck sucks, especially right under the landing strip. If you get stuck there, ask for an upgrade or your money back.

If you can run a mile and a half, do 30 pushups and 45 situps, follow directions, and keep your mouth shut....

..it really is that easy.

Oh yeah - Don't bother to bring a bunch of stuff with you. A change of underclothes and personal toiletries (toothbrush/paste, razor & cream), and that's about it. Tattooing a "One Way" or a "Stop" sign on your ass is optional.

Volunteer for EVERYTHING!! People always say not to, but I got to do some of the most interesting, off-the-wall things by volunteering for details.

If you get placed on a nuclear sub, drain the alcohol from torpedoes for your cocktails. The full service bar on the subs charges outrageous prices.

Cleaning the latrines is double the fun for the same amount of money. I highly recommend it.

Make sure that you kill anyone your politician (I mean sarge) tells you to kill, even if its a man, woman or child.

When the drill sergeant starts yelling at you, tell him his hat looks ridiculous (because it does). That will win you instant respect from your squad mates, and guarantee you interesting details for which you will no doubt get volunteered by the sergeant (see above).

Pretty sure you can still do so if you wanted to.
I'm too old for the Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.
