I'm learning how to drive stick....

Yes, I'm learning how to drive stick (just had my first lesson) and I have to say it's quite interesting. Most people said I would hate it but I don't hate it, I just suck and I can see why stick is much better than automatic. Any suggestions in driving stick on how I could "be more smooth" and is it possible for someone to explain "double clutching" for me?

Nothing beats driving a stick, total control over the car... you and the car become one (kinda).

If you want to be smoother, just let the clutch out slower when you shift, but not too slow or you'll burn it up. You'll get it down within a week.

When you go from a stop, don't be afraid to give it some gas.

Double clutching = shift into neutral, let go of clutch, rev match, clutch back down, shift into next gear.

Don't rev match on upshifts unless you're in a F&TF movie and have a 9 speed gearbox.

I wanted a stick so bad that I converted My maxima fro auto to stick. Then I bought some real sports cars that had 5 and 6 speeds already installed. *look of wonder*

Okay, I should have said "rev match if appropriate" 😛

Key word - 'if'.

Listen to the tranny tear itself apart every time you fail 🙂

Hah, I learned how to drive manual on the grandfather's ranch before I got my license to drive legally. 🙂 Trucks, tractors, pickups...it was fun.

Practice, practice, practice.

You're a...dammit, that word will get me banned.

Heh.. this reminds me of the time I snapped the clutch cable in my old Mustang. I drove it around like that for a day or so before taking it to the shop 🙂

Some sticks are hard to learn, and others are easy. Some sticks can shift into any gear without pushing the gas pedal, while others like my dads '04 beemer you have to be careful while letting the clutch out otherwise you slip the clutch and look like an idiot infront of your friends. Kinda like what I did, street racing my dad's prized chevelle ss w/510 ci 900hp engine against some mexican kid. I still beat him though, the ss is a dragster made for the road.

Bite me.

I spent all day working on the Porsche. Then I drank Tecate, no lime. Good times.
