Finally! Closed on Friday. Closing costs were a few thousand more than expected, but I'm finally in the new house. Old house is already rented and occupied by my tenants.
3 bedroom, LR, DR, kitchen, office, 1 bath, Florida room, large 2 car attached garage,
nice sized barn, 16 acres w/ slate bottomed stream... 44K
Heating system needs work, so we put in a nice coal stove (like a pellet stove - looks like a wood stove, glass front, etc.). I always forget how heavy a cast iron stove is. The house was 13 degrees when we arrived yesterday. I left the coal stove going on high last night - it was over 100 degrees in the dining room this morning. Niiiiiice(and, it cost less to heat that house for 1 day from colder than ice to 100 than it costs to heat my old house with natural gas for a day at 65 degrees)
Water on Tuesday, then we move in. (hopefully the water goes smoothly - getting the well tested, etc.) I've gotta install a water softener for it probably.
Wow, the never ending saga is over?!??!?!
Good for you
It won't be over for a bit yet... we still have a few issues. 1st mortgage company charged several hundred to our account (unauthorized) when we switched mortgage companies because we couldn't meet their contingencies that we signed and said we could meet. However, their interpretation of "utility" is different than any other one I've found.
Then, there's the issue with broker #1. Do we go after him? We're supposed to contact the NY State of Banking and Finance due to several of his outright lies and ethics violations. We're out a small hunk of money, thanks to him.
Then, there's seller's realtor #2. Very unethical. Several other realtors that I've talked to said that I really need to report the problems with her to "department of the state..." some division or other. I didn't realize the issues would go that high up. Reason: she did anything BUT help us close on the house - refused to give the lock box combination so our appraiser could get in, estimate to repair a heating system that's at least 3 times the cost of putting in a brand new heating system, etc.
