I'm in mood for watching a good anime MOVIE

Why do I like movies? Because they're single-serving and usually reach to broader / older audience. What do you recommend which I haven't seen already?

I have seen these.
Most of Studio Ghibli movies (Spirited, Mononoke, Graveyard, & Moving Castle)
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (loved it! reminded me of HS days)
Ghost in the Shell 1 and Innocence
Ninja Scroll (classic!)
Mind Game (good drama)
Perfect Blue (okay, too self-absorbed which is the tendency of anime)
Cowboy Bebop movie (and of course I saw the series)
Akira

So you can tell these are sort of AAA titles which are liked by many audience unlike the stuff that's meant for prepubescents (Naruto, Bleach stuff)

So anything I missed that I must see? Oh yea, how is Steamboy? I remember hearing a buzz about it on Boston Globe... RT has it 58%. 🙁

Ignorance ftl. Go pick up Graveyard. It can make any man cry that hasn't had a single exposure to anime.

RT (Gets me every time.. so sad)

Says the guy whose idea of entertainment is playing MMORPGs in his web browser.

Akira. It's practically a staple of any full-lenght anime feature film repertoire.

i tried watching akira. turned it off about 20 minutes into it. couldnt get past the artwork/characters.

Yeah, well maybe I'm in the mood for a TV series. What do you have to say to THAT, HM?

Kudos to you then. I like them too (Eva, Bebop, Chanploo, etc). But there are lots of crap out there.

What's your opinion on the old 'Star Blazers' series - the american version was edited quite a bit from the Japanese 'Yamato' series, but I find it to still be rather entertaining...

Thanks for giving me a suggestion instead of just an insult. It's true my only exposure to anime is spikey hair and super powers. I may just have to watch that at some point.

Take note AT, this is how you handle shit.

I really liked 5 Centimeters per Second. Another movie by the same creator, Makoto Shinkai, is Voices of a Distant Star

If you're looking for a way to find more movies in general, try out aniDB, they have a lot of users and fairly reliable ratings:

Yes 5 Centimeter per second is a good one, so is The Place Promised in Our Early Days another Makoto Shinkai film. As mentioned, Sword of the Stranger is good too and The Sky Crawlers is another good movie.

Whisper of the Heart is another Studio Ghilbi movie.

Dead Leaves, is an excellent quirky comedy.
Mezzo Forte, it's actually a hentai and if that's not your cup of tea the edited version (without the sex scene) still rocks.
R.O.D. (Read or Die) is a very good movie. There is a tv series based in the same universe with some of the same characters that is pretty good too.
