I'm in Houston.... gonna weather Hurricane Rita.... Any advice?

Rita is a pansy-ass hurricane. I'm in houston, its not even raining here. Just a little windy but not enough to have fun in.

Glad it wasn't bad but I was kinda hoping for a little more.

I just took a little walk to the nearest major street. Power seems to be on as far as I can see around here. I only saw one car -- the cops. I was worried they might mistake me for a looter despite the Inova XO3 and River Rock headlamp, so I went back home. 😛

Reminds me of my freshman year at Florida State. My dorm (Salley Hall) has these metal grates that run up the stairwell. We had a hurricane blow through shortly after school started. By the time it hit Tally, it had died down but still had pretty strong winds. We went up to the top of the stairwell and held onto the metal grating. The wind was rushing up the building and was stronger at the top - strong enough to blow our legs out horizontal while we held on. I wish we had a camera.

Be glad it didn't hit Houston.

You are on the west side which is the "pansy" side of almost every Hurricane except Katrina. It still had 140 mph wnds on it's west side.

Lafayette to the Lousisiana border has been slammed hard big time.

I was just in Lafayette two weeks ago.

A couple of co-workers and I were sent to help relocate our New Orleans staff to our offices in Baton Rouge, and the closest hotel rooms we could get were in Lafayette.

We had to fly into Houston since that was the closest place we could find rental cars.

We flew home a week ago.

I hope everyone made it through the storm ok.
