I'm in Houston.... gonna weather Hurricane Rita.... Any advice?

What part of Houston?

Bring anything inside that could turn into a flying object -- furniture, plants, whatever. It's probably too late to protect your windows with plywood, but you may not need that depending on where you are.

Are you in a floodplain?

I live on the second floor of a duplex near the University of Houston Central Main Campus.

I-45 and Lockwood to be exact. I can see the freeway from my place.

Have any valuables? How about guns? Is it well lit near you?

Oh, no problem. Just stay away from windows. Make sure you have food and water and be prepared to lose electricity.

You should be fine. 🙂

I'll be out here in Sharpstown if you need anything, haha.

Ummmm yes have some valuable stuff.... mainly my DLP, HTPC and server.....

Though I have a Glock 19C with Night Vision LED's installed and a laser. Have it loaded with 3 clips, one clip has hollow points and holds 15 in the clip the others hold 10. Ready for some looting bastards. This is Texas, we have a right to protect our shiat! hehehe.... not that I would actually want to shoot someone over material crap but if my life is in danger I wouldn't hesitate....

Anyways.... I have water.... some canned food, candles and flashlight.

No plywood though.... 🙁

Not sure what to do about the windows.

The wind may not reach window-breaking speeds in your area. If you have any duct tape, you can tape them up to reduce the chance of shattering.

Or hang up some blankets inside the window so glass doesn't fly in.

I dunno... Plywood has been in short supply since the mad rush Wednesday. Whatever happens happens, I guess.
