I'm in Diablo2 Hell!

Here's what I have-
800Mhz Athlon, K7V m/b w/256m PC133Ram, 45G ide, Geforce2 GTS 64M video, 40X cd, on board sound, modem and an ethernet card.
Start game screen (where you pick which character to play with) As soon as I select one and click the button at the bottom of the screen, the game freezes. No mouse response, but music continues to play and I get "flashing" lights from my HD and CD but nothing happens. Here's the weird part- if I pop open my CD door and immediately close it, after it acknowledges I have done so, and toggle between windows and the game, eventually I can get the game to start. It's sort of like it "burps" or something on that 'start' screen. I have loaded the new patches and reloaded directX, defrag'd, etc and loaded latest video drivers. Any ideas what it might be or how to make it stop "burping" on that screen??
thanks

Try turning off Direct3D if you have that enabeled, it seems to cause alot of problems for some reason.

yea.. too powerful.. u gotta trade in for a weaker comp, btw.. i'm available to make that trade! Do the trade, then you can goto hell!

Diablo2 still does not work in D3D for any Geforce 64mb card.

Last I heard they were still looking into the problem, but who knows. Blizzard turned off their Tech Support forum today. (Go figure, only 17 pages of posts a day!)

It works fine in D3D mode with my Asus V6800 Pure with the 5.22e beta drivers. Earlier drivers gave me the same problems....
