Im impressed with the HL2 AI

Specifically episode 1, but i think the AI is the exact same as in HL2. Itll run for cover intelligently, a bunch of combine all came through this shield and charged at me, i didnt take cover i charged right at them and they backed down a little and took cover behind some cars, that was impressive. They also use what covers available, never seem to just run right into my superior firepower, ill have to aim at their heads as they get up to shoot from behind somthing, or charge in myself. Also its use of grenades was pretty damn good. Twice i died because one of the combine threw a grenade and i was in a corner with no hope in hell of escaping, i forgot the gravity gun shortcut too, like the parachute button in bf2 😛

Overall, now that i noticed these things, the AI is pretty damned good, and applicable to the individual enemies. Anyone else agree that the AI is pretty good in HL2? In most situations, given my better weapons and more health, i dont see how the AI couldve done better tbh. Hitting me in the face with every single shot would be one thing, but the AI dosent dictate that, and the game would be too difficult then.

HL2's AI seemed pretty crappy. To me, it reacted too slowly. So, by the time it saw me, I would have killed it. Either that, or it would just keep backing up in fright, but not shooting me and then I killed it. It may depend on how aggressive you are a playing. In online games as well as certain singleplayer games, it perfectly ok to just rush your opponents. It depends on how easy they can kill you. I like to rush, it's fun. However, if I die too many times, of course I have to think of a new strategy. But HL2 wasn't very difficult. I could just run up and shoot somebody while they stood there waiting in cover.

HL2:E1 was a little better, but still a little stupid. They run at you too much, they seem to forget they have projectile weapons. They get too close and I kick there ass. They were smarter and that made them more difficult, but not by much. It was mostly in numbers that the AI could really hurt me. The AI also exibited some stupid scripting that they had to complete before they could shoot you.

I've seen better AI in other games.
