Also, I never particularly liked A&F. Some of their clothes are alright when on clearance (along with their sister-store, Hollister), but their staff just makes the store so incredibly unattractive and unappealing to me (in the sense that they're almost always rude, unwilling to help, etc)

Beautiful people are almost always rude, unwilling to help, etc.
Shut up, loser.

I can get the same stuff at TJmaxx for a fraction of the price.

Clothes wear out too damn fast to pay that kind of money for them.

But then, I'm not a fashion plate metro.

That was my complain, I can't buy shirts from regular places. I'm pretty well built and most of the shirts don't fit me unless I buy one size larger than I need. For example I have 32 inch waist, however if I buy 32" pants they won't fit my thies. So at regular department stores I end up having to buy 34" pants and have them fall off my ass.
could be worse, I have a 30" waist, and 36" inseem, and I have large quads and no butt. So far I've only found 2 brands that have 1/2 way descent room in the legs, one is Calvin Klien, that I can barely find and they are $100 each, I just found last year that Lee Dungaree also makes jeans with the same fit for about $30-35 each (and I can catch these on sale sometimes for $15 each)

For dress pants, I have to buy custom taylored. (this can cost anyware from $100-$150 a pair)

I mostly wear designer stuff but never pay retail. Retail is for suckers.

Bluefly, TJMaxx & Factory Outlets > *

That's how to do it. Add Filene's basement and even some BR stuff on sale.

The rudeness is part of the image. A&F + Hollister are such wannabe places. Any place that puts their name on 70% of their clothing is for wannabes. There are good clothes out there that don't involve being a walking advertisment.

Here's where you lose me - A&F clothes are NOT "nice." You'll realize when you get out of high school (or at latest when you get out of college) that nobody over the age of 20 wears them. You certainly can't wear them to work if you have a decent job.

I get compliments on my clothes all the time. I buy my Ralph Lauren jeans at Costco, most of my shirts at H&M, Kohls, etc, and most of my pants I get on clearance or sale at Express Men (OMG I'm wearing last year's pants, whatever will I do?!!!). I even have a sweater that I got at Target, because I care more about what my clothes look like than where I bought them. In the last year or so I've averaged about $13/shirt and $20/pair of pants or jeans. And like I said, I get a lot of compliments on my clothes, especially from my girlfriend.

And like Amused said, it helps if you have something good to put IN the clothes.

Brigden, you look a bit chubby in the pics I've seen you post here, I don't know.

Edit: and as for the "quality" of the clothes... I've never had my clothes fall apart at the seams, sorry.

My parents have A&F clothes in their closet from the late 1960s and they still look great. They're also very tasteful too, not crappy midriffs and pre-ripped jeans like you'll find in stores today. Too bad their stuff's not made in the U.S.A. anymore, or else the stuff in the stores today might also last 40 years.

A&F in the 60s was actually good. They were an outdoors, adventure clothing company those days until it suddenly became fashionable to wear that stuff. Now they have no focus, and while I admit that material-wise their clothes tend to last, they make stuff today that just caters to the lowest common denominator.

I used to shop at AF a lot, but I think Hollister is such a better deal. A little less selection, but when they have their end of the season clearences, boxers $5, shirts $5-$10, pants $20. This is where you should go if you still want to buy better looking clothes at a fraction of the price.

I don't see why people are getting so worked up over a shirt like this:

It's not the clothes, it's the price they charge.

It one's own prerogative on how much to spend. If someone likes it, they'll buy it. Thats how I am with clothes. I couldn't care less about brands or fasions. I buy clothes on whether I like it or not. I have clothes from Abercrombie and at the same time clothes from Target and Marshalls.

I dont see whats wrong with spending a little more to dress nicer sometimes.

You are free to spend as much as you want on overpriced mall store clothes.

Just as I'm free to tell people they're wasting their money when they do.

Money means different things to different people. My dad thinks we were insane buying a Range Rover, but I sit in his Chevy and I hate the cheapness of it.

I used to feel the same way. Then I did some math and counting. I still have Gap jeans and AE jeans from like 5 years ago. I bought a pair at Dick's (some store) for like $20 bucks, they tore at the knees in 3 months :-( Breakdown:

$20 = 3 months
$60 = 60+ months

cost from AE for 5 years = $60
cost from Dicks for 5 years = $400+

My mistake. In the picture of you at the wedding, I thought you looked a bit heavier.

Those $20 jeans turned into $100 jeans when the knees ripped, consider yourself fortunate. :) Seriously, I don't know what you're doing to your jeans, but I've never had a pair rip. Maybe if you're wearing them to do manual labor, but I'm not sure what you could do short of that to wear out the knees so fast.

I don't have much of a jaw, so I can look like I have a fat face at times.

I've bought jeans for $20-30 at Sams, TJMaxx and other places that were high quality, and lasted me 5+ years.

You can find quality without paying full retail. And unless you shop only at the clearance racks at the mall, you are paying at or near full retail.

Your example is silly.
