I'm heading to MEPS on Saturday. I'm a little nervous. :O

I know it's just the first step, but I'm already getting a little nervous about it all. For those of you that don't know what it is, here is a link.

MEPS

ahh i fondly remember my meps appointment on a monday back in the spring of 2000. Thank goodness I decided the saturday beforehand the that I didn't want to be tied to one base for four years and backed out long enough to get out of high school and get some knowledge in my head.

GL OP make sure you get all of the bonuses the recruiter promised. the saturday

Just be prepared for potential high pressure recruitment. In 1990 I was flown 250 miles to our closest MEPS station 3 times because they refused to give me the MOS I had selected with my recruiter. They also tried repeatively to attach airborne to my contract even though the MOS I had picked dealt with M1 Tank electronics. If you don't get what you want do not sign and make sure everything promised to you is in writing.

I appreciate the tips very much. In this time of military recruitment shortages, I've basically decided that I'd walk away. It's MY five years of my life, not theirs.

yeah...enlisted with a written guarantee for 0311...(rifleman) Spent 22 glorious and fun-filled months in/around Da Nang...with a few occasional forays into less hospitable places...

Not sure what MOS you're trying for, but be careful of the "good of the service" clause in your enlistment contract...basically, that means if you screw up in training, they can reassign you anywhere they want...with no recourse on your part.

Ever hit China Beach? Totally different experiences but I visited there last year and remnants of the military base were still there. A village sits where the base used to be, it is now a nice backpacker spot. I was told that one of the main bridges in Da Nang city was built by Americans and the other by French. There is still a definate mark left all over the country (even Saigon airport uses old military hangars).

tell us if they still make you bend over and spread your butt cheeks, that is my fondest memory of MEPS Spokane WA, April 13 1986

Oh hell yes...I wasn't one of the surfer nuts, (there were hundreds of them at the time), but I enjoyed snorkeling a bit from time to time...

Try your best to get a decent night's sleep and have some breakfast, it's a long day and it begins early.

Enjoy the duck-walking in your underwear. 😉

Infront of 30 other men. And if your lucky like i was you'll get to do it twice because the doc thought he saw something.

I was going in as an officer for the Air Force. I backed out after I passed the written exams. The last part was interviewing with a general. I didn't do that.

MEPS is just like a trip to the doctors office for some physical exams followed by some basic ASVAB aptitude tests that you already took back in high school. Just be sure to wear some underwear, you don't want to be that on fool who forgot his superman underoos while stripped down bedning over touching his toes..... dirty a___hole.

It's no big deal. Lots of sitting around doing nothing.

That too, I forgot about the 2-4 hours you will wait to be processed. Followed by the waiting between tests. Take a good book with you. And get plenty of rest the day before, because they will roust you out of bed at 3am and whisk you from your hotel room to the MEPS station where I arrived 20 minutes later. It will be very late at night when they finaly let you go.

Yup. They had some crazy ass cartoon show hosted by a dog in a General's uniform when I went.

Oh, wear clean underwear. During the physical I was next to a dude wearing very stained Jar-Jar Binks tighty-whities. No joke.
