ok I plan to get a new comp i have done lots or reaseach but im having second thought about what i want to get. I will be video editing, playing games like cs hl hl2 games like that. i play some rpg like daiblo and starcraft aswell. i really want to have a nice stable and upgradable system. i dont realy want to OC but i might if it needed. i would like to get s939 and nf4 board.

here is wath i think im going to get

A8n-sli
3200 winchester
6600gt
1gb corsair value ram
enermax wisper II 535w psu
xdreamer case
and 5 case fans

Keeping existing 80gig hdd for now along with my dvd rom and cd-rw drive. i will get probly 3-4 250gig 16mb cache drive.

im haveing second thoughts if this is overkill or should i change anything. i dont kno if the 3200 will have the clock speed to do the rendering.

thanks for the input

Looks pretty good to me. for just about anything.

If you don't plan on going SLi, I would probably pick a different mobo.

i think i will but not sure..i want to option incase i want to in the future... will the 3200 have high enough clock speed for rendering?

I would recommend getting at least one extra hard disk for backups and stuff now. If the main drive ever crashes, you will be sooo happy that you have a backup.

If video editing is your main focus, then I recommend using a pentium with hyperthreading. A lot of benchmarks have shown higher results with pentiums than amd's in that field. If it's just a side hobby, then don't worry about it.

it mainly a side hobby for now but i want to maybe make into more then that. (i need a mac not enough money though) so a 3200 or 3500 should be plenty

It's amazing how these decisions become complicated even for people who are familiar with the bleeding edge, who keep up with the tech news and trends.

The "average" PC owner-user has the equivalent of a Pentium 4 in the 2.2 to 2.4 Ghz range.

There's nothing wrong with what WE do -- try to stay close to that bleeding edge. Even so, doing that costs money. HOBBIES cost money. But since this technology involves a doubling of speeds, disk storage and other features ever couple years, paying attention to costs and upgrade paths is important even to the hobbyist.

I'm reasonably sure that an SLI-ready mobo will configure readily to a single PCI-x x16 graphics card. I've also seen benchmarks showing that the same graphics card, crippled by taping the edge-connector to x4, is still "adequate". So how much better is SLI with two graphics adapters utilized as "x8"? As opposed to a single x16 graphics card?

I cannot "give up" my participation in this wallet-draining pastime. But I am becoming cynical at this moment, with so many memory standards, two different "dominant firms" producing processors, hype about SLI and a host of other things. At LEAST PCI-x promises to open a bottleneck for things like SATA-2 controller expansion cards and "faster graphics". I'm holding onto my cash until next fall or even later.

A8n-sli MSI Neo4 or DFI NF4 Ultra (single PEG x16) if you don't want to do SLI, which won't really be worth it with 6600GTs anyway, even later on
3200 winchester
6600gt
1gb corsair value ram
enermax wisper II 535w psu This is probably a good idea for 5 hard drives, two opticals, and the rest of your parts, though it may be a bit overkill
xdreamer case Meh; I'd rather have something like an Antec PlusView1000AMG (no included PSU), a clone of that, or possibly the SLK-3000B (no included PSU, same chassis as the SLK3700 series) for the price you're looking at*
and 5 case fans Yikes! Won't that be loud? You probably only need about two or three if you're using a large case with 80s.

*Edit: I didn't know the X-Dreamer had mounts for 120s. Something with those is probably a better option still, though the SLK3000-B would have them.

Going with the 6600 gt graphics adapter makes sense according to recent publications, if you plan to eventually get a second adapter.

Looking at the X-Dreamer case, my personal view is that a case providing 120mm fan ports front and rear would be better than a case that accommodates so many 80mm fans, but that's just me. I see nothing to rave about with the case, nor anything to criticize too harshly.

agreed. Those cases are a little cramp for my taste.

thaks for all the replys. Where would i find th dfi board i can find the sli boards but not the single. o btw to saw the a8n for 181 at monarch this past weekend but its bakc up at 230 again and i will look at that case as well

sorry my case was a typo i was thinkin the xdreamerII

EDIT also still quetioning if the 3200 will have to clock speed for vidorendering

my suggestion is to buy mid to high end parts, and not top of the line, unless you can find a great deal for them. the total for my computer was 1500 without a monitor, and i was sorely disappointed in some respects, including a motherboard that i didn't really need, and the fact that my case fans were too loud. i would look into getting a classic design case (lian-li, silverstone, coolermaster) and opt out of the bling cases. you can add windows to the higher end cases, either via mods, or you can even buy panels with windows already installed. but that's my personal thing.

i don't have any experience with AMD, but i'd suggest getting the DFI board, just because it's DFI. and if you're intending on doing video, drop cash on a video card. that's one of the more important parts that people skimp on - myself included.

there's no reason for a 500 watt PSU, unless you're going to seriously overclock. Seasonic is coming out with a new PSU called the S12. it's supposed to go up to such insane levels of power, but it'll be a lot quieter. look it up.

the only thing i saw about the dfi is if i put a 7700zalman alcu hs/f, it looks like it will cover a dimm or 2.

im still wondering if the 2500 will be better over the 3200 on video editing and rendering. will i notice any difference?

I'd agree with that. Abit NF8, A64 3000+ and a 6800GT on the AGP bus, maybe? Then sell that bundle off and upgrade in a couple years, instead of spending 2 to 3 times as much on the mobo to ensure an upgrade path. Think about it.

the problem is my parents dont like to let me upgrade very often so so when i build i have to go big..that my main road block and thas mainly why im getting sli i do play to et dual 6800gts once money lets me. but thats the main problem i still haventhad myquestion about 3500 vs 3200 with video editing
