Sony will integrate the PS2 processors Emotion Engine, Graphics Synthesizer and RDRAM into a single chip, and the 90nm process will be reduced to 65nm

i wonder if nintendo or microsoft will do the same

That's the plan. Sony didn't realize just how much people enjoy having access to the entire library of the PS1 as a bonus to getting the PS2. The plan right now is to provide backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games in the PS3.
