The gf and I are booking our trip tonight. We're gonna fly Southwest though :( I really didnt ever want to fly Southwest again. We're gonna stay at the MGM Grand, might even upgrade to a suite.

We're going for 3 nights.

Now comes the hard part, setting aside a budget to spend. Im thinking $450 (including money for food, gifts.) Is that too low?

Oh, the gf says we dont need a car there, because we can just walk up and down the strip.

You can easily walk the southern end of the strip. You may get a little tired out if you try to do it all in one day (in order to see everything).

There is the Duece bus that you can use if you wish to continue to the northern end or downtown.

There is a tram across the street that links the Excaliber, Luxor and Mandalay.

there is also a tram between the Mirage and the Treasure Island.
Next to the TI is a upscale mall for her if she can not spend enough within the casino shops.

Weather right now is pushing 70.

Food isnt taht cheap in Vegas, unless you go out of your way to find it at certain locales. I'm talking the buffets at casinos run $20-30 each..but mmmm good

I'd figure $50-75 per person per day for food and you should be able to fit that no problem..could of course always eat at McD..you are right, no need for a car

Gifts, you are supposed to buy ppl gifts?!? :p Give them the buckets that they give you at the casinos for holding chips, I use mine all the tiem for holding pens and such

1) Get a car!

2) get room with jacuzzi!!!!! Book it now instead of being raped on rates at front desk. and there is such a thing as waterproof lube. ;)

3) $450/day is good. $500/day is my budget when i'm there

When do you plan on going? I hope it isn't this weekend; it is going to be one of the craziest times ever in Vegas with the NBA All-Star Weekend activities.

Check out this article speculating how crazy it is going to be on espn.com: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/blog/index?name=simmons

I'm with Jedi on the budget. 450 for three days is way too low. If you hold yourself to that budget you will not be able to really take advantage of being in Vegas (unless you are a very good gambler.) Shows are lots of fun, but can be expensive. There are many great restaurants, but again, they can be pricey. My wife and I went for 5 days, and we spent a little better than $500 / day (plus gambling) and had a great time.

For a three day trip, I wouldn't get a car unless you want to get away from the strip and do some sightseeing.

Have you ever been to Vegas before?

The last time I was there I had a bunch of drunks come up to me and yell at me as hard as they could for no reason(on the strip). Don't forget the free porn every 20 ft or so along the strip.

Two things to consider:

1 - Your budget is probably too low ...

2- consider another destination.

Remember .. I warned you.

I've been there 3 times in my life, all of which were when I was a child and I went with my family.

My budget might be too low, Im considering raising it to $600 for 3 nights.

Are you saying that the gf and I could face trouble walking the strips of Vegas?

"Are you saying that the gf and I could face trouble walking the strips of Vegas?"

I'm saying that your GF (and yourself) might find it quite uncomfortable walking the strip with guys handing your porn mags (for special services) every 20 feet or so. They tend to push them on you whether you are with a woman or not.

You must understand that I am biased against places like Vegas. I live close to Disney World and, for the life of me cannot understand WHY anyone would actually pay to visit the place. I've been to Vegas (as an adult) and (to me) it is just a very expensive Disney World with a lot of drunks and free porn.

Already been there. Dont need to go back.

Even though I had a decent time I think its got to be the most overrated city on earth.
