I'm going to the casino for the first time in 9 years

Any tips? I am only taking a a couple hundred there and will be playing no more. I probably won't play a slot machine since I feel like I would have a better chance at winning on blackjack or roulette.

the house edge in blackjack is only 0.5% if you play perfectly. roulette is 5% or so. slots are the worst.

if you are coming here to ask for advice on gambling, already consider yourself a couple hundred dollars poorer.

Pick up a blackjack strategy card at the gift shop, they'll let you have it out at the table as you play. Just do what the card says and bet progressively when you're winning and back down when you're not.

I was just wondering which game had the better odds. To those who do play slots, how long do you play a machine before you move on?

That is why I am only taking in a couple hundred and I have already realized I have lost it, I am going for fun and if I win some then great.

Slots will eat your money but I do play them with some winnings just for fun. If you don't get any payout in like 8 spins then move on. On dollar slots 100 bucks can evaporate in 5 minutes.

another factor in the profitability of blackjack is whether they allow splitting and doubling down.....to a lesser extent 5/6 card charlies etc

Don't play any games against the house. Poker is pretty much your only option.

I don't find any house games at casinos even mildly amusing.

How long do you plan on staying in the casino?

$200 could last a couple hours if you don't hit a bad streak.

I've never seen a table that didn't allow splitting/doubling. The only restriction seen is you can only split aces once.

The real key is whether they allow surrender or not.

"first time in 9 years"
So this is your first time to visit? Because if you visited a casino 9 years ago, this is not your first time. 😵

My last visit to a casino was in Las Vegas, late June 2002 9 years ago.

Play poker. If you're going to lose your money give it to other players not directly to the house (granted you have to pay the house to play it (rake). It's still the only game where you can get the odds in your favor)

Black Jack and video poker you can get the odds in your favor.

You got to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away, and know when to run. You never count your money when you're sitting at the table. They'll be time enough for counting when the dealings done.

Umm...the way he said it is perfectly fine. I can see why it looks strange, but it's still correct.

He's not saying it's his first time ever, but within the context of the 9 years of not going, it will be the first time.

based on my very limited gambling experience I say you are totally correct

when i went to Vegas to see PRIDE 33 live my buddies insisted we go to play in the casinos even though i didn't because to me it's foolish to go in there just to lose money, anyway I am stuck with them so i have to go

spent most of the night playing those very low-fair slot machines and slowly but surely I lost about 30 bucks, then i decided to play video blackjack and started to win and so i said to myself if i win up to 30 bucks (what i had lost on the slot machines so far in the night) I would immediately quit and cut my losses so i did and made all my money back

keep in mind I'm no gambling expert so my advice to you based on my experience is to play blackjack

TL/DR version: I lost on slots, and i won all my money back on video blackjack, so play blackjack

Don't chase what you lost. Go in with a budget and have fun.

This. If you go in worrying about the odds, you won't enjoy yourself. I usually bring a specific amount that I plan on losing, and just have a good time. Anything left over is a bonus.

I remember when i took my gf to the casino for the first time...

My gf spent all her time on penny slots. She had a twenty, when we left to go eat 1.5 hours laster, it was around $198. We have never been able to replicate that success.
