I'm going to start saving up for a GeForce 3...

I'm going to start saving for eye surgery from the damage that Nvidia's 2D has done to me. 😛

By the time that game is here, there will be GeForce5 or Radeon4 to choose from. By then maybe Nvidia will fix their terrible 2D, and Ati will fix their remaining Win2K driver problems.

Yeah, I really hope that nVidia do something about their 2d. It makes it impossible to go for their cards (for me at least) even with the amazing 3d because of the way stuff looks at high resolutions in 2d.

You guys are high! I'm at my home PC ~6 hours a day at 1600x1200x32 and it's been sharp and clear on everything from my TNT to my GF2! Buy a good monitor, you playa hatas.:|

You know I have just recently turned into a hardware junkie, but I have noticed that discussing video cards is about as fruitful as discussing politics and religion.

Here is what I have gathered though in the past few weeks:

3d gaming med. resolution - Nvidia
3d gaming high resolution - Radeon
2d / dual monitor support - Matrox

I chose the Radeon 64ddr myself b/c of the added features (ViVo) and the price.

Just joshing around, but it makes sense if you think about it. Carmack will be messing with the engine for the rest of this year and then the level designers/modelers/chouda boys will need time to make a GAME out of it.

Hey, I'd take it tomorrow if it was a go, but I think that they'll need to get some GF3s out into the market if developers are going to exploit the power of DX8. It's the old "chicken vs. egg" thing/

That Doom3 presentation was the coolest thing I ever seen 🙂

Where did you see it?

EDIT: nevermind, I found the thread.

"You guys are high! I'm at my home PC ~6 hours a day at 1600x1200x32 and it's been sharp and clear on everything from my TNT to my GF2!"

I gather a few things from this statement

1) You have only used nvidia cards extensively
2) You have gotten used to low-quality 2d, so the crappy picture you see is all you know
3) Your vision is so jacked you don't know what you're looking at.

" Buy a good monitor, you playa hatas."

please tell me you're kidding.

if all you ever ate was dogfood, you'd probably like Kibbles 'n' Bits, and wonder why people look at you funny when you dug into your bowl.

I've had quite a few number of cards of the same type and they can vary widely in sharpness.

The problem comes down to poor quality control. You know they pump these things out by the thousands and I seriously doubt they test every single card at every available resolution/refresh rate. There are bound to be good ones as well as bad ones. Matrox has been the only company that produces very high quality 2d because they have very tight quality control. ATI is 2nd mostly because they manufacture their own products, while Nvidia's stuff can vary widely.

How much will the GF3 cost you think? Unfortunately it will probably be more than 300 won't it? MAN! I can't remember a new card coming out and costing more than that... altough, what I'm talking about is before the GF2... Its ruined prices for good w/ its "Ultra"

Sorry I am too lazy to find a direct link for you 😛

It is like on every gaming related sites and message boards.

Back when I had a Creative Labs GTS 2 I ran my desktop at 1024x768... It was fine for me, I've have really never used another brand of video cards except NVidia before my ATI Radeon.

You are right, I was used to the bad 2D, but 1024x768 is fine for me and most users. After using a Radeon for a couple of months THEN going back on my friends' system who had a GTS, my eyes could tell a huge difference.

I still want a GF3 tho 🙂 I'm just going to wait and see until the next gen. games come out. Maybe my Radeon will be good enough to play it.

The 2D quality does vary from brand to brand, anyway there are some very good 2D quality Geforce2 cards out there,my own Geforce2 card is good as my friends Voodoo3,anyway at the end of the day you will get millions of different opinions, so this topic is really pointless it`s your money your choice so whatever you are happy with is all that matters.

🙂.

🙂

<< Buy a good monitor, you playa hatas >>

I made that statement about 2d not bashing nVidia but just from what I have seen over the years having used their cards. As for buying a good monitor, I am running a 21" Sony CPD-E500 FD Trinitron @ 1600x1200x32 , would you like me to upgrade? 🙂

<< moz, i suggest u upgrade... >>

🙂 🙂

Damn, there go my paychecks for the next few months 🙂 😀

That will be in my price range in... ummm... never! Well unless you think a 24" $7000 LCD will ever get down to >$400..

I'll never pay over $500 for a monitor!

Well until the day they are used as a monitor and a TV, then I would say $1500...

Just a FYI, my GF2 MX's 2D image quality at 1024 x 768 x 75 Hz seems to be a little bit better than my Voodoo3 was.
