I don't have another job lined up...but I don't care.

I work at a small company, around 8 people and it sucks. I am a software developer. Been here almost 2 years. And I decided to day that I'm done.

People hate each other, boss is annoying and just as bad. Morale is low...and I just can't deal with it anymore. I have been thinking about this for a while and I think it's over. I don't even feel like giving the 2 weeks, just quit! Tell him when he hires someone I'll glady transfer knowledge, but I can't take this anymore.

Stolen from Something Awful. Use this as your letter of resignation.

Dear Manager
After an appropriate period of deliberation, I have come to the decision to tender my resignation from IBM effective Sept 15th, 2005.

Please know that I still maintain a high level of respect for you as a manager and colleague, and I thank you sincerely for the support and assistance you have offered me in each of those roles. I have been proud to work for IBM over the past six years; it has been a journey that has provided me an unparalleled foundation to move forward to new and exciting opportunities.

As such, I have decided to become a professional pirate. It has always been a dream of mine to live the life of a swashbuckling corsair, beholden to none and master of all I survey. Once my crew of unabashed rogues is assembled, we shall take to the capacious expanse of the high seas to pursue fortune, fame, and hair-raising adventure.

Our path may not be filled with the porcine comforts and technological marvels that IBM provides, but we shall nonetheless move forward to carve a name for ourselves in the annals of bold insurgency and death-defying derring-do. Once I have a keen blade at my hip and the Jolly Roger is flapping high above me, I believe I will find my true calling.

Please note that I am currently accepting applications for First Officer, if you are at all interested in applying. I will provide a full medical and dental plan, which will offer immediate coverage of all maladies other than scurvy and the occasional bout of rickets.
Sincerely

If you are going to quit and not give two weeks notice then why bother offering to help when they replace you?

Don't burn any bridges.
There is a right way, as well as a wrong way to quit a job.

Are you an "at well employee"?

I think about doing the same thing.

I used to do hardwood flooring when I was younger, and physical labor just seems to be calling to me again to get away from this desk job.

Do you think that offering to help once they replace you offsets you jamming them up by not offering two weeks notice?

If you don't give a crap about what happens there and don't plan on using the company as a reference, then just quit and tell them to pound sand.

Sweet! Being able to just up and quit like that is such a liberating feeling! I did that once when I got pulled into a meeting with an HR lady and my manager about my attendance. I had just missed two days of work at my phone job because I had pneumonia, was coughing up blood, and had a doctor's note telling me to stay home. The HR lady gave me these puppy dog eyes and said "you know... when I'm sick I still have to come into work."

I put in my 2 week notice the next day. Ended up getting escorted out the day after that and got paid for my 2 weeks! :D

be a professional, give two weeks or you can say goodbye to the last 2 years of your life.

I thought about all that, and trust me, this is not the place where I put anyone down as a reference.

so you plan on lying instead? or just denying all questions about your employment status for the past 2 years?

Exactly. Just give the two weeks notice and save yourself the aggravation.

Yep. I'll be leaving shortly, too, and it will be nothing short of catastrophic to the development of our landmark product. I'm not interested in screwing them over by leaving, so I'll be offering my consulting services after hours at fair market value. Get some good jack on the side, and they get their product.

Don't see why am going to lie...I will say where I worked. Not like i'm going to hide it. But putting up with 2 more weeks would be a severe punishment.
