Sometimes in August I'm going to be around the Tulane area.

Do you guys know a good place/cheap to eat and is there any hot zones in the area?

Can't be worse than Richmond. Due to the rain recently, I feel like wearing a coat of steam when I walk out.

youll probably die in the heat and humidity............but before you do come up and see me. Just one hour up the road!:D

Yes there are hundreds of cheap places to eat in NO where the locals dine, not the tourists.

Yeah, I remember a burger place where they "fry" it in a vat of oil that has never been changed. I want to try that place, but I don't remember if it is in NO.

Frankie and Johnnys is one of my favorite New Orleans local dive restaurants. It's close to the Tulane area.

Frankie & Johnny's (tel 899 9146; 321 Arabella St; open 11am-9pm daily), near the river, is a friendly neighborhood joint that really drives home the fact that you're in southern Louisiana. Come with a large group and expect to enjoy yourselves. In the spring, when crawfish are in season, order a platter of the boiled critters and a round of beers for your party before choosing from starters like alligator pie and turtle soup, and mains like fried fish.

Go eat at other places besides downtown New Orleans where all the tourists go. Downtown is very expensive......

Food:
Best burger places: Port of Call (tourists and locals) on Esplanade, Bud's Broiler (all over the place, closest to Tulane is on Calhoun).

Try Rio Mar on S Peters for some interesting fish dishes.

Taqueria Corona for Guatemalan/Mexican.

Brunch at Court of Two Sisters is fun even if it is touristy.

Places to go out:

Check out Bridge Lounge on Magazine, 360 in the WTC if you want a cheesy (but fun) nightclub, Twiropa on Tchopitoulas, Miss May's on Magazine (worst dive bar ever), F&M's on Tchopitoulas (only after 3AM...don't forget to dance on the pool table), Dos Jefes is a nice little jazz/cigar bar (also on Tchopitoulas). There are a bunch of new places that have opened up since I moved last year, I don't remember their names though.

Feel free to ask me anything about NO, I lived there for 23 years.

F&M's after 3:00am is certainly an interesting time. Been there a few times and it's generally pretty crazy.

You are going to make it to the French Quarter at some time aren't you?

Not Cheap, but you have to experience it.

How touristy is a place that reeks of urine and stale beer?

I wanna go back bad.

Hot zones abound! Emeril has a resteraunt in the quarter. Be careful going out, stay in groups or don't go.

I live about an hour from there. PM me if you need anything else.
