I've been to the campus twice, and I didn't notice any shortage.

Compared to Austin, it's like a drought.

Oh, and for what it's worth, UT EE's program is better.

Congrats! What will you be majoring in? Don't forget shower sandals and an iron (for ironing or throwing at your roomie).

Electrical Engineering.

I'll be taking Chinese also (I will have four years when I graduate HS)

Probably take classes in MechE, maybe a minor.

damn. I was going through their course booklet and I want to take nearly every course offered . . . .

I well have many AP tests done going in (physics, calc, chem, history, english) so maybe I can have the time to take the classes I want to.

Man, I can't wait.

If Rice is like most good engineering schools: science AP's are only good for the easy chem and physics classes which are not the physics and chem you'll have to take, Calc AB is worth one semester on frosh calculus, but you'll be glad to be rid of one semester or english and US History.

And your view of 'taking all classes' we rapidly fade after you starting with some the hard classes your sophmore year.

Carnegie-Mellon is even more brutal...they start the hardcore classes freshman year...no time to get cozy with your math skills, or your understanding of physics and chemistry...they just throw you in screaming. Actually, grad school is kinda like that that here too.

I'm TA'ing the frosh 'intro' Chemical Engineering class (which is the same course I took as a sohpmore in undergrad at my old school) which contains some reasonably hard chemistry, thermodynamics, reaction balances, etc. The poor kids are taking frosh physics, chemistry, and calculus at the same time with this class (plus a general ed class)...they are getting brutalized. I've had a couple kids start crying during my office hours.

And I don't blame them; I would've developed a involuntary twitch after a frosh year @ CMU when I was 18-19 years old.

Anyhow...good luck. And I bet you a 100 dollars you don't get a minor, except in drinking. I did that too...signed up for a minor in computer science (though I might even double major, oh yeah)...took a few classes. Then when the real truama of junior and senior engineering classes began (with the horde of labs and projects...in every freaking class) ideas of 'taking a few classes on the side' went right out the window...in fact, it sounded like insanity.

Listen to me very, very carefully.

I'm very serious.

Go to class. Do not stay up until 4am and sleep through class.

Once again, Go to class.

For an undergrad, Rice is better. You can't even compare the two! It has an incredible national reputation. Even graduate-wise, Rice is incredible even though it's ranked worse. It's extremely prestigious in certain fields.

UT is good, but Rice is better. However, college is what you make it no matter where you go.

Personally I don't think you should be posting crap like that in someone's thread where he just got into Rice. You probably have some sort of inferiority complex with Rice and have to convince yourself that you're better, with them being a prestigious, top 20 ranked school and all :D

Congrats on getting into one of the best schools in the country!

I'd rather go to Rice as an undergraduate. I wouldn't even think twice about it.

Congratulations on getting accepted into Rice! It's an excellent school! And cheaper than other private schools in the top 25! It's a fantastic school at a great price.

Clearly you didn't major in engineering or go to a good school.

Paying thousands of dollars to go somewhere and spend all your time skipping class and partying is stupid. You are there to learn. Have fun too, but that's not why you are there. Try to remember that.

Trust me on this one. Make sure you always have an ample supply of toilet paper. Nothing is worse than scrambling for old magazines or newspapers to wipe your butt only to find that the cardboard roll is the only thing available.

Good luck. My bro-in-law went there, and the campus is really nice. It's about 50 miles from where I live. Nice school.

and at the end you all get the same degree and a year later nobody will care about your grades from school anyways. you pay thousands of dollars to learn how to party responsibly :D

Yeah too bad the hot girls you see walking around campus wouldn't have anything to do with you.
