Install ME instead. It may not be as stable as XP or 2000, but it's much more stable than 98, and has support for more devices.

You honetsly think this is true. Everybody knows ME stands for Mistake Edition. They had some apes from the Bronx zoo do that one.
Trust me ElFenix don't do ME. If you want something more stable than 98 try DOS. But ME won't do anything good for you.
The problems you get on a 98 machine are so much easier to fix than Millenium. Working in a computer store has proven this to me.
If anything do NT or 2000 if the machine isn't fast enough for XP. Atleast with those the BSOD tell you helpful information where as ME will say
"Your system has been halted." For no reason.

Haha, pervert. (Read above.)

But yeah, don't install ME, it sucks a big one. It doesn't matter that it has the same kernel, and is NEWER. It was doomed from the beginning.

I just did the same thing. Good luck. It took me about 20 minutes or less cause I ghosted my last install. harvey says to stay away from IE 6 on the upgrade. I got ME on a second machine. It constantly crashes and won't wake up. 98 crashes but not so often and it always wakes up ok.

win98 will work just fine for you if you yank out IE, explorer, MS HTML rendering engine and use a different shell like progman or litestep.

Ok.
I installed and used ME at work on a couple dozen machines including laptops. They were running without any crashes longer than any 98/98SE machine I have used. These computers were used very heavily: constant compilations, database ops, etc. I would RARELY get a blue screen; instead it was a problem with a particular app crashing, which again was not common at all.

ME ships with much more drivers than 98, too.

So let's not get into ME vs 98 :)

I don't know wtf you people are smoking about ME. I am running it for 2 years without any reinstalls on my laptop, and I may get a blue screen once a WEEK, max.

Get some quality RAM please, and configure the system correctly.

I very rarely had problems with win98. I *might* have seen blue screen once in 2 years or so. XP is even better since there are now recovery options. I think you really have to keep track of your system to keep it crash free.

Oh, and just to add this: everytime I have tried NT it has ended in the OS not booting after less than 2 weeks.

me = 98se + "bloated crapware"

If you want a good 98 based system, you want to remove as much built in software as possible, not add to it.

Plus, if MS is running from it, it can't be good.

Don't talk bad about Windows ME! It kept me busy fixing stuff for a long time. I lost a lot of customers when Win2000 and XP came out. :(
