Congrats. Take your laptop, digicam, and a power-coverter (no 110v there)

Also, take LOTS of money. The dollar is laughable over there.

Go to Berlin, see the brendenburg? gate, the Reichstag, see lots of castles, visit the Auschwitz concentration camp, etc . And yes lots of money. Also if your looking for any WW2 artifacts you can probably get em really cheap off the black market there.. My dad got an SS Dagger for about 110$ Euros I think.

Apple makes a "World Power Kit" or something for like $30 that has adapters for your Apple stuff for like 6 nations. I'm pretty sure it works w/ the iPod as well...check that out for sure.

Take tons of pictures of course, and EAT their food. It's great. Personally I'd use a credit card for purchases and carry little cash. The exchange rate ain't as bad and you're covered internationally w/ purchases.

I hadta buy an adapter once I got there for othe appliances (digicam), etc.

Oh, and eat at local German places. Everyone I went to gave us french fries w/ the meal (kinda like Americans get bread at the table w/ any meal) and they were the best fries of all time :D

Have fun, I hear Sweden is awesome but I've haven't been just yet :)

thanks south!!! Yeah I can't wait! I wish I could get the apple power adapter but I'm leaving tomorrow so might have to get one once I arrive in Germany, I'm sure they have them at the airport somewhere. Anyone know the name of some meals I should try?

Hamburg is the most confusing town ever to drive a car in, not that you have to do that.

why would you spend you vacation on the autobahn? only certain parts are no speed limit.

Eck! This is a German original but I hate it...don't order a lot until you try it. Taste like sour slaw to me.

Most American airports (bigger ones) have at least one tech store. Try there for that Apple kit.

i've been to hamburg twice! summer 2001 and 2004. My aunt lives there, so we like to go and see them.
it's a pretty nice city, although I must admit I haven't done most of the "touristy" things. driving there can be confusing, but it's nothing a map can't fix. After a month there, I had general idea of main roads and how to get around. I was actually doing the groceries for my aunt by the end (which was really just an excuse for me to drive the bimmer hehe).
check with your bank before you go and find out if they have any partner banks in europe. ie, with my scotiabank debit card, i can take money out of deutchebank(sp?) ATMs for a smaller fee than if I used other german banks. and I think it's actually a pretty big difference.

Oh, and in hamburg, you definitely must pay a visit to the St Pauli neighbourhood hehe. Even if only for sightseeing, it's very interesting imo.
