Be very careful buying electronics, remember if it sounds too good to be true........

Bring extra pepto bismol, it'll make your trip a lot easier.

I can't speak for China, but assuming it's similar to Taiwan it's going to be friggin hot and humid. You can probably buy really cheap CDs, like piles and piles of them (I saw stacks of hundreds and hundreds shrink wrapped together, like towers 3-4 feet tall of CDs).

Affirmative on the not drinking tap water thing. Also stay away from ice. Soda is pretty safe. You should also take pains to peel the skins off all fruit and avoid any fruit that grows on the ground (ie squash, watermelon). And make sure you get all your hepatitis shots. Have fun!

good advices.

before i came to canada the idea of drinking tap water directly = :Q and eating skin of fruit too, that is laced with chemicals

and hepatitis is a problem in china. try avoid eating from street vendors that sell food in reusable containers.

General Tso's Cat. ;)
And I think Chinese plugs are like Russian plugs, 220v 50hz, round holes.
If you have switching power supplies, I think you just need the plug converter, otherwise you might need an adapter.

China has a lot more electronic gizmo's you can't get in North America.
Cell phones for sure... and they're all unlocked standard

Well, China is a really big country, it's hot and humid in south, but cool in north. You may just enjoy the real Chinese food, not the junk in Chinatown here. Buy some silk clothes, or jade whatever. No need to buy warez since you might download those everyday. But, if you like, PDVD is really cheap! Just ask your friends there to help you buy some, a D5 is usually less than $2, a D9 is less than $4.

Get some cheap Nikes, Electronics, and movies. Leave extra room in your luggage for the trip back home.

wahaha is a good brand of bottled water.

i have to disagree with the previous poster that said to avoid street vendor food. that is the real authentic chinese food... 2x better than most restaurants there and 10x better than anything you'll get here. sorry, but claims that you're going to get som e horrible disease from eating street vendor food is just paranoia. those people eat it every day and they're still around aren't they? i mean lets get real, they have a big ass wok sitting on a hot gas flame, it's not like they're giving you raw fish or meat. i spent a month eating that food and was just fine, i can't imagine going to china and missing out on that (i seriously think it's one of the best parts of visiting china).

umm the street vendors that wash like 100 dishes in the same bucket of water looks pretty unsanitory to me. you really have to be careful. some of them might be clean but some of them aren't.

hepatitis is a big problem in china, and street food has a lot to do with it.

anyway the food tastes great but you just need to be careful and choose the good ones.
