Ok I just got back from Fuddruckers... I figure... if I'm gonna starve for 24 hours... I might as well eat well first... 2/3 pound Portabella and swiss burger, large onion rings, and a Corona... damn good eatin.

Reasoning behind Yom Kippur:

It's the day of atonement... the holiest of all holy days... I'll be praying my tuchas off all night tonight and all day tommorow, to make up for all the bad stuff I did all year.

Yes I am a big panzy🙂

But what is ATOT good for, if not bitching about things we have noone to blame for but ourselves? 😉

And for you atheists... I believe very firmly in gd.. this is an important holiday for me.
But I'll bitch anyway... and you guys can feel free to flame away
-Max😛

I had to do it recently, not for religious reasons but because I decided I could handle an iPod- couldn't keep anything down for more than a day after that. It sucked :| Best of luck, but look into atheism some time 😉

- fixed

so what's the reason behind this nonsense again?
Yom Kippur. Very big deal jewish holiday.

That wasn't the question, I mean what is the reasoning for fasting at all?

It translates to "Day of Atonement". Basically, it's a day to make amends for your sinning of the previous year.

Doesn't meat + dairy = not kosher?

Correct... I'll be atoning for that shortly...

Edit: Seriously... I don't keep kosher... but Judaism is not an all or nothing religion... I do however take Yom Kippur seriously.

so are you saying you can eat a Reuben? What about shellfish?

Thats something I've always thought about. Whats the bigger sin? breaking the "boil a calf in its mother's milk one" or the "bottom crawler" one.

Well technically... they're both just as bad...

oh im sure God will be compelled to forgive a spoiled ass like you being an attention whore by bitching about what he must do to be forgiven by having to fass and pray on the most holy or holy days....

heres a thought why not do what you feel compelled to do and pray and fast because you want to.....

I would thiink God would want you to pray and worship him in private rather than bring attention to your 'suffering'?

I'll be fasting as well. I am a fully observant Orthodox Jew, Kosher, prayer, the whole deal. You are only hungry because you KNOW you can't eat. 🙂

Some grumpy people today 😛 I recommend more coffee... anyway your prefast meal sounded so good I had to go heat up a bowl of soup because I found myself suddenly hungry... :|

it is the day that us Jews get to repent to God to forgive our sins. you get a clean slate after this day. once a year, you atone for your sins.

Yes - tone those flabby sins.

So Jews only feel guilty one day a year, Catholics all the time and Protestants just blame the Catholics and the Jews for their sins.

The rest of us just have a beer and watch football. 😀

Like hell. Pilsner Urquell is as "low-carb" as I get. We cyclists need all the carbs we can get. 😀
