This thread has made me appreciate one small part of the UK's computer game distribution and release date mechanism.

99.9% of all games are released on a Friday. Take a day off/pull a sicky, have three full days playing said game and see how you 'feel' on the Monday... If you've completed it, turn into work... If you're having too much fun, you're still not recovered.

I've actually not done the sicky thing but I have rearranged a holiday or two to give myself an extra day or so playing the brand new game!

Just watched the trailer, definitely looks like something I will be interested in. Looks a lot like Titan Quest, but with destructible environments.

pretty sure D3 will be the first game i take off work to go buy/play on release day

Yeah me too. I've been excited to play many games on release day, but I've never taken a day off for it. I may just treat myself to that when this game is released. Here's hoping they do good things with the game.

I love a great in-depth RPG, but the Diablo series has never tried to pretend to be anything other than what it is. The background story, environments, and classes have just enough detail to be interresting/cool, but the gameplay is all about building up characters to splatter demons and grab loot. Or splattering demons to grab loot and build up your character. Or...you get the picture.

Eta 2020?

From the dates I have seen, anywhere from August - November 2011.

But then again, we are dealing with blizzard and DIII could get pushed back another 10 years. It all depends on world of warcraft or starcraft gets another update anytime soon.

Mid-late 2012 is likely. The late-end 2011 date is actually an internal target which was leaked by some retiring executive in Blizzard China. While nice to have by this year, the developers reported that since they hardly ever hit these targets, there's no point expecting or hoping for it.

In any case, their MP gameplay looks pretty good, on par or exceeding NOX's twitch-style multiplay:

I think the same. I've never played 1 or 2, so maybe I'll give those a shot.

To really understand the story line of Diablo, I highly suggest that you play through part 1 first, go to diablo II + lord of destruction expansion next, and then finally play part 3.

One of the great things about the original Diablo was the story line. As you worked your way down through the church and caves, the story is slowly revealed. The player finds these books (tomes) that narrate the story. Before you reach the bottom levels, you should have a very good understanding about what has happened.

Diablo II "kinda" starts where the original leaves off, but there are some holes in the story line. DII has a patchwork feel to it that I really did not care for.

Hopefully, Diablo III will continue the great story that the original started.

I didn't particularly like Diablo 1 but then again I did play it several years after playing LoD

The fact that I couldn't seem to run away from a monster which was completely owning me was a bit of a downer for me. At least in Diablo II I could do some tactical running or kiting. Diablo 1 never seemed to allow any of that.

EDIT: Wonder how much of a dog it'd look like on my 47" LCD TV :| Might have to dig it out to try.

They should announce that in 2 years, WoW will be shut off, that'd be very interesting, an dunheard of for a game.

Assuming they release their new IP by then ^_^...shit, even if they announce the new IP i'd be happy.

That's what I was looking at lol but yeah I figured it was more hype to get people to give'em their money anyway. Just thought it would be funny to see someone freak ZOMG D3 08/01 B!TCH3S W00000t! haha

America uses mm/dd/yyyy as the default, so 08/01/2011 is August 1st not January 8th.

Hack and slash multiplayer with a smattering of RPG flavor are my favorite genre.. Been a serious lack of this genre in the last few years, I don't think there any on this generation of consoles. Can't wait for D3 and DS3.

My GF is the concept artist for DS3 ^___________^. Looks to be awesome

This.

I've tried Diablo 1 & 2 several times, but I just don't see the appeal. It's like playing Baldur's Gate without all the interactions/party banter and dialogue. I consider those essential to a good RPG story.

D3 seems to be more of the same hack & slash, though I will definitely give it a try since it's a Blizzard game.

Personally I dont like story driven rpg games. It's always some B level plot and I can never get into it.

I wasted more of my life playing Diablo 2 than any other game. Probably than any other three games combined, I'm so with you OP.

My cousin just talked me into playing D2 last night for the first time in ages. Our whole grade was into it when we were in 7th-8th grade so like 10 years ago... Even if you barely knew how to turn on a computer, you were playing D2. It really brought back fond memories and made me even more anxious for D3. It would be really awesome if that date on the Walmart page was right, but I'm not getting my hopes up :colbert:

The arena aspect is retarded. But looks like be a fun single player game.

I think it would be cool if they did a random level generator..so you can play it hours on it, and get achievements..like 5million zombies killed. hehe

I'm confused. Diablo has always had random levels. One area will not be the same in two different games. Or are you talking about something like the secret cow level?
