My father has always been a big gambler. I remember we would take weekend trips to Atlantic City, maybe twice a month, while I was growing up. This went on until I was maybe 15. My father would get complimentary rooms at the big hotels and free dinners and gifts, so we all went along. I'm 24 now, and I havent been there in ages. I can still remember what it was like; the boardwalk, the homeless smell, the cheap stores. I wonder if it has changed for the better at all.

My gf and I are staying at the Hilton, just for a night (Saturday). I'll probbaly bring a few hundred dollars to gamble with; maybe play some craps. Im not big into gambling, but my gf enjoys it.

Anyone visit Atlantic City recently? Thoughts?

**UPDATE** 10/22/07

My gf and I stayed at Atlantic City at the Hilton. We came back ahead about $700 between the both of us. I won $300 and she won $400. We played craps, and a few slots for fun. The boardwalk has changed. Many of the cheap souvenir stores on the boardwalk are gone. The large mall on the boardwalk (formally known as 'Ocean One') has changed as well. When I would visit Atlantic City when I was younger, the mall was filled with cheap gift stores and a large arcade. It has now changed to a luxury mall with stores like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Tiffany & Co., etc. Big difference!

Anyways, we had a great time and the best part of it all? We didnt pay for a thing. Everything was comped from our room, to room service, to dining out, to parking.

Hookers Galore!

They're everywhere...it's amazing. Cops can't arrest them all because there wouldn't be enough room. I thought Vegas was bad, but DAMN!!!!

I go 5 or 6 times a year. Make the trip out to the marina to go to the Borgata...actually a nice place. Besides that I tend to gamble at Caesar's more than the other places. There's a half decent concert almost every weekend during the summer...might still be someone good in town so I'd look into that. Casba at the Borgata is a decent club, 40/40 outside of Caesar's (can't miss it when you drive into town)....The Quarter is in Tropicana and has a handful of clubs (though last time I was there they each had a $15 cover which is dumb...should be one cover to get into everything). Check out the new mall on the pier outside of Caesar's on the boardwalk.

It's actually gotten a lot nicer in recent years, if you go a few blocks off the boardwalk you're still in the hood but there's a lot of nice areas.

That mall you speak of that is on the boardwalk....was it once called "Ocean One"? I remember a large mall that was on the board walk, and it kind of extended out onto the beach into the water.

Lived there for 5 years until earlier this year. Most of my college buddies are there.

Its changed. Enjoy the boardwalk, but honestly, if you want anything other than gambling, go to atlantic city. But make sure you check out the Irish Pub on st. james.

No, this is brand new. All high end shops and a couple nice restaurants on the top floor.

Bah the pier is a waste of time. Go out back though and spit into the ocean... pretty cool being that far off the coast.

The only thing the pier has that's nice is the indoor beaches... or should I say mini beaches

Sounds like you don't have the flow to actually shop there. :)

Sounds like you had fun, hope we were able to help. Where did you go for dinner and how did you get everything comped? Better yet...how can I get everything comped? We usually get offers for discounted rooms on the weekends and free S-R which I guess is better than nothing...guess we need to go down more (and lose more) to get really comped.

We ate at Hilton and at Ballys. My father was able to get everything comped for us since he's a big gambler. He goes to AC nearly every weekend.

Uhm, no =) I'm a single 24 year old guy making a shit ton of money. That isn't my point. My point is that it sucks. My friend works in one of the stores there, and all she does is bicker about how crazy management there is, etc.

Nice, I have over 300K Hilton points from traveling for work but the friggin AC Hilton doesn't participate in HHonors program or I would have been there every weekend too.
