I had a previous job that did the same... they made it so domain names wouldn't resove and the blocked port 80. I have a linux box at home though, so I would use vncserver at work to access my linux box using my direct IP and port 5900, and would use the browser on that. Slow yes, but effective.
 
explain to me this "vncserver" thing. i understand it's basically a redirecter but I can't install any software on the computers there. This will have to be webbased.
