im getting white pages, timeouts, you name it

I've only been seeing extremely poor page loading times over the last couple of days I'd say. Sometimes I went to load my list of recent posts and I'm waiting about three minutes for it to load, then if I stop and reload it it comes up within a few seconds.

I gave up trying to load the forums yesterday evening because pretty much every page load was like that. Needless to say but every other website here is loading fine for me.

This morning it's absolutely fine, perhaps because the Americans are mostly asleep by now 🙂

I usually get the white page in my mobile browser from this sequence of events:

  • From mobile Safari, use the "Request Desktop Site" option.
  • Make a post in a thread.
  • Leave the mobile Safari browser and use another app.
  • Return to mobile Safari.
  • A white page appears.
  • Reloading doesn't help. Tapping in the address bar and tapping Go doesn't help. Requesting desktop site again doesn't help.

I *do* think it's related to the mobile site thing because, if the AT page was a forum index or my subscriptions, Safari simply loads the mobile version of the last page I was on (forgetting my "request desktop site" preference).

I think it only happens after I've made a post. I'll try to copy the URL sometime.

Happened just now. I parked my car. Pulled out my iPhone 6 Plus. Used the task switcher to get back to the mobile Safari browser. The page reloaded and showed the mobile version (I left it on the desktop version, but it doesn't take much for the Safari state to be pushed out of RAM and the page has to re-load when you switch back to Safari). I tapped the address bar and hit the 'request desktop site' option. Page reloads to a white screen. Reload does nothing. Tap address bar and tap Go...nothing. I can't keep reading the thread where I last posted. I have to go back to my bookmark back to the thread subscriptions page. This was the URL:

Had to clear mine too. You should post something on the main site or make a forums landing page to notify people about the issue. I bet you are seeing a huge engagement drop off with people thinking the site is broken.

Still getting cookie errors. "Version 43.0.2357.81 m Google Chrome is up to date."

We're still working on this. It has been an annoying issue to track down, to say the least.

The bad request cookie cleaning exercise went away for awhile but the last couple weeks it has bee back with a vengeance. Are you others using FF?

Hitting me hard today, too. Site also stopped remember which threads were "read" and left them all in bold font. Clearing cookies seemed to get things back to normal for now.

Do you guys happen to be using a VPN?
Any special plugins or browser extensions?

Just covering all the bases here - it's still in mystery mode why this is happening, and the devs are still researching the issue.

Just fyi, I access this site regularly on three different PCs, a laptop, and a smart phone, (all with Chrome) and it's been quite a while since there has been a problem on my end.

Don't even know what a VPN is. Using just a standard FF 38.0.5 install with a skin.

Any news on this? I've typed out replies to several threads over the past week only to get the stupid cookie error and lose my post.
