Words like, "Sit down and shut up!" are afraid to be spoken today in a classroom for fear that the kid will tattletail to their parents, etc.
I saw teachers get fired for less. Your "basic training" philosophy would land you:
1) In the unemployment line
2) In court for civil suits
3) In prison for violating ridiculous state laws about how public schools will conduct activities

The kid kept pushing him, and kept saying "What are you going to do, huh?"

Maybe you are boring them with mundane work? What subject do you teach and for what grade?
You know Edison and Einstein never did their homework, nor paid attention in school. They were both very eager to learn too. But teachers imposed a strict, conformist learning pattern on them that bored them.
I recommend you to read a book called The Edison Trait. It will teach you how to effectively deal with these "problem" children and bring the best out of them.
... So you're saying that classrooms are full of asshat geniuses? Maybe 1%. And teachers are already VERY good at spotting that 1% because it's a different breed of asshole.
I wholly agree. ADD/ADHD is way overdiagnosed. But it certainly is a real "disorder". But I agree with you that it's a gift and not a disorder. Most ADD/ADHD are actually just discipline problems, not truly ADD/ADHD. I dont appreciate you saying it is a mental problem either. It is a gift and should be treated as such. Maybe your a sucky teacher that doesnt know how to guide the kids that truly have ADD/ADHD. Put them in charge, challenge them, show them special attention, and see how much they improve.
