i need some major help. you can check out my rig in my signature. [1.1ghz, msi k7tpro2a, 320mb pc133, running on win2k] as you can see...it looks like a great system but about 6 months ago i tried the dumbest thing possible for a noobie in computers to do...i tried to overclock. i knew a little about what to do but i tried to take my 1.1ghz to 1.3...that's when my comp failed to start up. so i called up a friend and he told me to take out the battery from the motherboard and wait 5 seconds and then put it back in. that didn't do anything at all. then i checked the led's on my mobo and it said i had a memory problem. so i fixed the memory problem [starting up w/ the 256mb of ram] and everything seemed fine after that. i brought the clock speed back to 1100mhz but now i get sudden lockups. it usually locks up when i'm running a lot of stuff at once [watching a movie (mpg) while browsing the web] or playing games [counter-strike] while listening to mp3s.]

i heard there was a file i could download and it fixes lockups in win2k, but that didn't work for me. i tried replacing the ram, and it still locked up. also don't suggest reformatting cause i did that many times. also my psu is fine...came w/ the antec sx830 case. nothing seems to work...do you think i have to replace my motherboard or the proc? i can't stand it when my comp freezes! thank you

it could be a heat problem, meaning it didnt show up until summer got here. has the temp in the room gone up alot?

also do you have any good case fans to get the hot air out of the case?

just a couple ideas :) good luck

When you removed the MB battery, the MB probally lost all its settings. I suggest going into your MB Bios and selecting "Load Bios Defaults" then set it back up.

Helznicht: i already loaded the fail-safe defaults.

Lots of possibilities. Besides the obvious (drivers, etc.) there is the Power Supply (a common cause of random locks and other oddities on a PC).
