I'm getting my car detailed tomorrow....need some advice

What should I ask them to and not to do on my car?

I'm getting only the exterior detailed, which involves polishing and waxing so that they can remove swirls off my car's body.

Thanks.

I personally like waxing by hand over a machine unless you're really sure they're not gonna burn your paint by accident. Are you just gonna have them wax it or use a polishing/rubbing compound to remove scratches and dead paint, etc.?

Yeah, that's what I'd be afraid of...

In that case it depends on how much you trust the skill of the place. Personally, there's only one person in my town I would trust to polish and wax my car with a buffer, and I don't mean myself. Chances are it will be fine, but just be aware that if they mess your paint up that's it.

Apparently those swirls came from me washing the car at a diy car wash and when wiping them dry, the little remaining dirt on the paint caused swirls.

exterior wise you should just do it yourself, the only thing they're gonna do that you can't is clay your car

detailing is only worth it when they work on your interior/engine/underbody, they do ALOT of stuff that you'd be too lazy to do ^_^
