I'm getting an award that I don't deserve

Yes.

Edit: The amount of times you will actually monetarily benefit from your hard work far outweigh the times you will not on a ratio that would probably make your head spin. Take what you can get.

If you're receiving something that should go to someone else for their efforts, either graciously accept and give it to that person later or just fess up now and make sure they get it in the first place.

If you're the only one involved, laugh all the way to the bank.

DO you not deserve it because you don't think your performance was sufficient or because the award really should go to someone else? In other words, is someone deserving not getting the award because it is going to you?

Edit: Dang, Nik and I think alike! :Q

Background definitely helps - don't take credit for some else's work, unless they are dead. Even if they are alive you could kill them and then its ok to take credit

I don't have any particular person in mind who I think deserves it. But I clearly don't.

Take the money, just don't post the plaque unless you change your mind.

The award has a monetary component. Should I accept it?

Don't let the big, shiny envelope fool you. It's just Publisher's Clearinghouse; everyone gets them. Notice the word "may" in that key sentence.

Did the previous winners deserve it? These things are often decided based on internal politics in whatever organisation it is.

Do you give to charity? You could take the money & give it to charity if that'd clear your conscience.

Personally, I'd just take it as a blessing & start watching for the impeding fail that'll take it all away.

Yup. Agree on both points.
