I'm getting a new comp at work!

They're wanting me to work quicker but when my computer can't work as fast as I can it's pretty bad.

Work comp: 1.6 P4 with 256 RAM (I had to convince the IT guy to add a 128 stick for me ), Win XP, 16G HD

New comp: better than that (that's all I care about at this point!)

Though, I do NOT feel sorry for the new girl getting my old computer....hehehe She was supposed to get the new computer but since she's only going to be using Word and some internal programs she doesn't need all that. LOL

I will welcome all the 'Congratulations' that come my way. Thank ya. Thank ya very much.

Heh, you should consider yourself lucky. There are people where I work that are still using Pentium II 350's with 128 MB of memory :disgust:

Your old computer sounds powerful enough. What do you use it for? Hard drive, video, and memory were the bottlenecks on it.

I'm responsible for all incoming orders (in aroundaboutit kinda way). More to it but I can't say because I'm bound by a confidentiality agreement concerning my job and the company I work for. But let's just say it could concern checking people out.

The internal work is what taxes my comp more than anything. But thank goodness, we're about to switch ISP's because our current one is getting lazy.

He's installing a new HD in my old comp to use for the new girl and saving my other HD for backup. I already got rid of my pics and bookmarks I needed long ago. And checked to make sure it was OK in less than the 45 minutes I was given advance notice of....

I did ask my IT guy to keep my current keyboard. Besides that, can't wait to smell the 'new smell' when I go into work on Monday morning. Yum.

why do you need a fask pc at work

anything more than a 1gig p3 is good enuf for most people, unless you are doing CAD or something

I have a 1.4 centrino ibm laptop as my work pc, but its a overkill really, all i do is log into our server to write code/build and test

WTF does ISP have to do with the speed of your computer?

I can run old memory and CPU hog cad programs and compile a ton of code and run FIREFOX on my AMD 1.1 all at the same time. I doubt you do more than that with your computer.

Hooray. You got a new PC so you can run my Credit Report. I have a P3500/64MB ram/onboard 8mb video that will do that just as fast as your new machine...over the internet.

When it comes to the site, I am the first one at our company to let IT know it's going down. It's been sucking lately. I'm on it so often I can tell you within minutes what's going on.

You can test me all you want. But the fact is, my computer with my company's current setup isn't working so well. You couldn't possibly know all the programs I need to have running on my comp because (1) you didn't read the entire thread and (2) you don't think I know better. I know what I need and they're going to give it to me because they're tired of hearing me complaining )) and besides nobody has done that for anybody else as long as I've been there (over 8 years). I think I know what I'm doing.

I am working on a brand new one, IBM p4 2.6
