I'm getting a job interview!

Whoo, after a few weeks of hard work I finally got called for an interview. I exchanged a few emails with the guy who's in charge of the first interview and it's was really informal -- he offered to stay late because I have to drive 8 hours, etc, etc. I really look forward to this interview!!

But is it okay to ask if there's going to be some form of knowledge test (it's PHP programmer job) -- he knows I just graduated and I've never had a "real" job before. And is it also okay to ask about the dress code, to know if I have to go with my full outfit or just a clean pair of jeans and a nice shirt?

Thanks!

Congrats!

...and I don't see why you couldn't ask those things.

Edit: Actually, if you're asking about the dress code for the interview, wear slacks and a button down shirt at the very least. It's better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed.

holy cow, u have to drive 8 hours to the interview?

Are they paying for your gas/expenses?

But yes, dress slacks/dress shirt/black shoes at the very least. Tie is optional.

asking about any type of test should be fine. If there is one, they should tell you.

Oh no, I mean I'm not gonna show up wearing jogging pants.

Is there something special I should bring? I'm gonna bring a copy of my CV for each person attending the interview.. but should I bring like my diploma or something?

If you bring an official transcript from your college, there's no need to bring a diploma.

The 8 hours drive is because I'm in another province and I specifially want to get a job in Québec City. I went there three weeks ago to hand out over 45 resumes. The drive itself isn't really a problem, I have my own car and I know I want to work in Québec.

no, just bring the hard copy of the resume, wear nice shoes and clothes and dont be too nervous, the more relaxed, calm, and confident you are the more likely you are to get the job

Mmm dickers.

Ameesh, you really know how to turn me on.

Hehe. Of course I'm a little bit nervous, but I'm extremely excited to show them how much I love to code in PHP. To add to my excitement, when I was preparing my 45+ resumes before we drove to Québec, that place was THE place that I was most interested in.

I went to my interview yesterday, everything went pretty much as good as it could have. It was a one-on-one with one of the managers and it was pretty informal. He is not used to give out interviews so he was pretty cool about the whole thing. I brought a portfolio with me and he went through the sites I had worked on and I described him the site he was on and what part of I worked on.

One of the only thing that I wish I could change is that I was showing him a site, and I told him there was an admin section.... and without asking me, he tried to add "/admin/" to the URL and when he got in the admin section, there were some MySQL errors. That's because I had recently switched hosts, and since that site was just a personnal project, I didn't rush myself to update the backend code. But anyway I joked about it, and I think (well I hope) he didn't give it too much attention.

At one point, I was kind of confused of what he was thinking of me. For example, when I showed him a shopping cart that I coded entirely in JavaScript, he seemed impressed, but when he saw that there were frames on the site, he seemed disgusted. I told him that I had done that site in 1999, and that frames were still cool back in the day, lol... I don't think he gave that too much attention either, that's why I'm still very positive about the interview.

Anyway I'm going to let me know tomorrow of Tuesday if I am selected (out of 4 persons interviewed) for the second interview with him again, and with the owner.
