Me and my SO are getting a baby Indian Ringneck today. We are going to learn to handfeed it, and take it home. It's a lutino. Should be cute.
I will definately take some pictures of the little tike once I get him home.
This is what he/she should look like:

Baby Ringnecks

Update of the saddest kind:

We picked up our baby bird yesterday at 5:30pm. He was snuggled in his critter keeper up against the breeders refrigerator, with a towel over his cage and a lamp to keep him warm. He taught us how to mix the formula and feed the bird. How to test the heat and how much to give him. We stayed for over 3 hours just talking about what we should and should not do. Talking about other birds.
His next scheduled feeding was at midnight. My SO mixed the formula just like he had been shown, but added a small amount of plain yogurt and some pedialyte to it. I told him not to deviate from the instructions but he did anyway. The bird would not eat for him, so I took the syringe and he ate everything I gave him. He had liked me better from the get go. He fell asleep shortly after feeding. I went to bed about 1am. He was snuggled in the corner of his tank with a toy we had purchased for him. My SO went to be about 1:30am. He was still sleeping.
I woke up at 6 am this morning, to check on him and possibly feed. I lifted the towel up to greet him only to find blank little bluish bird eyes staring at me. He was laying on his crop, formula in his mouth.
Sometime during the night he threw up. We are not sure why. He might have bumped his crop too hard, or the formula might have soured. We don't know. But he asphyxiated sometime during the night.
I have no pictures of him while he was alive. But imagine the sweetest little bird face you can think of. Still pinning, he would have been fully feathered in a week or two. Yellow. And he needed me. And I let him die.
Anyways, just updating.

Well he will be handfed, and tame. Which means he will be able to ride around on my shoulder when I am at home.

Up until 7 yrs ago, I didn't give birds a second thought, I was always a dog person. My then girlfriend (now my wife) got a very young cockatiel. I named him Maximus. After we got married, we got him a buddy, Oliver. Then came Joey a couple of years later, and last year we added another baby, Sunny. Now we have 4 'tiels roaming the house (never unsupervised).

Point being, I'm completely attached to these birds. They take showers w/ us, watch tv w/ us, sometimes join us for dinner (barely steamed veggies, or whole wheat toast w/ no butter is what they get). While some frown on having birds in a cage, w/ ours, if we're home, they're out and we do take them outside to get fresh air & sunshine.

Please remember, strong house cleaners, burning teflon from overheated cooking pans, air fresheners, avocado and chocolate can be deadly to birds.

Congrats on your ringneck!

Congrats! As a former bird owner myself, I think that is awesome. We got a lovebird shortly after it hatched and handfed it as well. He became very attached to us. They do really think they are human though. We used to let him ride around on our shoulders, eat a few things, shower, etc. As far as talking went, since we had multiple species of birds at the same time, they just learned to imitate each other. :/ Let us know when you have pics!

Just remember it's a baby animal and you're likely to not be getting much sleep for a while due to having to feed it all the time...

Your home and town did not come under massive sustained bird attack after you got the lovebird?
