I'm getting 5.3 score on my brand new E6600 C2D

I installed Vista Ultimate 64-bit last night and ran the score check, it came back with total score of 5.3 where 5.3 is the worsest of all and it happens to be a CPU. WTF? the best score I got 5.9 for Vid card and I don't know if this good or not. Everything else in between. I was expecting higher score for memory as I got 4GB of it.

Am I wrong about this, or is it ok?

TIA

I have to add that this is a brand new system I just put together last night:

Gigabyte DS3
E6600 C2D
Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro
4Gb G.Skill DDR2 667
Iceberg memory heatsinks
GeForce XFX 7600GT
WD 250GB SATAII
Samsung DVD SATA
Creative Audigy 2ZS
Seasonic S12-430W
Lian-Li PC-A05B

(from http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/04/19/...hmarking_or_benchmarketing/page3.html)

"The WEI value is a simple number between 1 and 5.9, where 5.9 is the highest WEI score you can reach today. As soon as there is faster or more advanced hardware, Microsoft intends to introduce higher scores of 6 and up. Microsoft says there is no schedule for updating the score range, but it should be done approximately every 12 to 18 months.

Vista's WEI scores are not just a simple number; they follow a certain base score definition that is called the score level:

* Level 1 (1): Sufficient performance. Ready for office applications, web browsing, email and IM communication, basic educational software
- older or entry-level computers, ultra-portable devices
This is the minimum score to run Windows Vista.
* Level 2 (2.0 to 2.9): Adequate performance. Aero graphics, improved system responsiveness, but same application profile as in level 1.
- low-end and mainstream computers
* Level 3 (3.0 to 3.9): Up to date system performance; Aero graphics, average 3D game and graphics capabilities
- mainstream PCs with graphics capabilities
This is the minimum score to reach Vista Premium certification.
* Level 4 (4.0 to 4.9): High system performance, capable of handling HD content and high resolutions in 2D and 3D modes
- high end PCs, enthusiast PCs, desktop replacement notebooks and enthusiast notebooks
* Level 5 (5.0 to 5.9): Highest performance available today.
- kick-butt computers

As Microsoft adds level 6, the level definitions might change, but existing scores won't. This way, it will be possible to compare old and new computers/hardware easily. Microsoft puts emphasis on the benefits of the WIE for hardware and software purchases, which is an obvious step from a business point of view.

5.3 for a e6600 @ stock 2.4 ghz is correct, if you O/C it to 3+ ghz you will get closer to 5.7-5.9. I'm shocked that your anemic video card got a 5.9 though... It's a stupid benchmark either way so I wouldn't sweat the results.

You are running the 64-bit version, right?

Thanks yuppiejr, this is the best description I got so far. My score seems to be reasonable and nothing to complain about, it's just strange to me the the lowest score got E6600 processor. I don't know how its getting calculated but I saw other people scores with slower processors (not overclocked) with higher scores...

bring your overclock close to mine and you'll get 5.9

Cant wait for the 8900GTX's to come out. :T never wanted the 8800's because they run as hot as quad cores. 😛 Sometimes even hotter if you overclocked it.

5.3 is about right. My E6300 @ 3.2 scores a 5.8 on that test.

And that's precisely why i don't put too much stock in WEI scores.

My E6600 @ 3.5 GHz gets a 5.7, yet apparently, Vista thinks your E6300 @ 3.2 Ghz is faster

Not to mention the hilarity of a 7600 GT getting a 5.9...

Ouch.....

My e6600 @ 3.0ghz got a 5.9, my 7900GS (@650/1750) got a 5.9, the only thing that didn't is my SATA hard drive, it got a 5.4 :/

What is your batch number for your E6600
