You've obviously never received a bonus before.

They are taxed at a MUCH higher rate than normal income. You mean spend about $13,000 and pay $7,000 in taxes.

Yea you're probably right. I was being too generous in my numbers. Although I really don't know if military bonuses are taxed differently than private sector bonuses.

Taxes suck.

I would pay off any debts I have and put the rest into savings for a rainy day. Maybe put it in an index and let it cook for a few years.

i agree with all the people saying pay off your debts (if you have any) and invest the rest. you should be able to find some 5% or more accounts. i think CDs are around 4% or something but i could be wrong

Another vote for savings. I don't understand the "american" mentality of spending what you have NOW. I buy impractical stuff all the time, but I also want to make sure I have a ton of money saved up "just in case."

save it. if you have 12 grand left or whatever, spending some is one thing, but save most of it so you have something to work with when your term is up.

i thought armed services members were required to take certain courses on financial responsibility....how old is the op anyway? 18?

listen to eaglekeeper and make *good* use of the money, and dont waste it.

Based on your user name, you should give it all back since it's paid by tax payers and we could all get a .0000000001% break! :D

(well, sound's good to me! ;) )

That would be considered a primary residence, and not an investment property.

Remember to never compare anything in southern California to the rest of the nation.
