With the reformat of my laptop, the arrival of my new desktop, and abandoning exchange server I now have no microsoft os's on my home or work networks. I can't believe it took me this long to finally just do it. Feels good, though I'm not looking forward to tweaking everything.

You can still run Outlook, right?

I suppose I probably could, but why would I want to?

I just wiped my windows partition last week and formatted my whole laptop HD too. I don't miss any of it either. Screw MS, at work they have some old crappy IBM pc's running 'win98 (lol) and XP on some newer Dells and Its all married to some crappy overpriced networked lab equipment. The receptionist computers up front are so loaded with spyware they can hardly boot. Its extremely sad. Someone could make a killing if they could make a linux ERP for this type of business and support it.

Nice! See you on the local TF2 server for some serious fragging!

Oh wait. I won't.

And? Remember, not everyone plays games on their PC. When I quit playing games on my PC I realized two things. 1) I spend more time with my family/friends and 2) I don't need the latest/greatest hardware to use my computer. Win-Win. :)

Seriously though, I wonder how this thread would have gone if it was someone posting about the reverse - as in going back to Windows after a bad Linux experience? to ya Stash!

Never tried tf. I'm on GW, AA, CivIV most of the time. Other stuff less often.

Has there ever been ANY gaming software that doesn't seem to be screwed up, at least at first introduction?

i am still a uber noob when it comes to *nix, so it will be a longggggg time before i do this. We have thought about just keeping our server windows for terminal & Corporate computers on windows and move all the field computers to linux. Then my job will be a bit eaiser, no spyware/virus! hurray. And people wont bog down the system because they wouldn't know how to install shiat.

I don't mean bugs or anything, I haven't even paid enough attention to know if it's buggy or not. I'm talking about the way they f'd up the gameplay by doing things like removing grenades.

I don't think TF2 is messed up because of no nades. The demoman is mighty powerful and the other classes are balanced quite well. The game is freakin awesome, imho, and worth playing, bigtime.

1. I play games and still spend time with family/friends. That's all about you being poor at time management.
2. Who said you needed the latest and greatest to use a computer?

No excuses!

Congrats ! i tried to do the same thing, installed RedHat & Mandrake a few

they run on Windows.

If you're talking about 3D renderers then most of the big ones have Linux ports and have for years.
